Dr. Erdem Aktunc, MD

He was the doctor (hospitalist) on staff during my stay. I saw him once on the second day of my stay and after he reviewed my case said I could check out that day. There were two other doctors who also had to release me. I was visited by both of them, the last one at around 6:00PM that evening. When he said you should be able to leave tonight I asked what are our next steps. He said I will send Dr. Aktunc a text but he won’t like it. Sounded like the doctor didn’t want to be bothered at 6:30 at night. 45minutes later when the nurse came in I asked if Dr. Aktunc was going to release me. She said I am not supposed to text him after 7:00PM but will send him a message anyway. The bottom line is that he never responded to the nurse that evening. He apparently didn’t want to be bothered. The next morning after spending an unnecessary night in the hospital the doctor who resealed me the evening before walked in a said, “your still here?” He said that he did send Dr. Aktunc a text the… evening before saying I was ready to leave. Bottom line in my opinion is that Dr. Aktunc just didn’t want to take the time to release me the day before. Not only did I incur additional costs from the hospital, I could have potentially been exposure to other illnesses and I was taking up a room that might have been available to another patient. I will be going to administration about this unnecessary experience.

Dr E Aktunc saw my husband at Methodist Stone Oak and at The Heights of Bulverde Skilled Nursing Center. He was curt, blunt and in no uncertain terms told my husband of 45 years, you are dying you have stage 4 cancer and you are at the end of the road, I have completely read your file and you have no more options available to you. I was speechless that a physician would speak to a patient, any patient, in this manner. A sign of the times I suppose. I can't stand this so-called "doctor" Just horrible experience. My grandmother is at the hospital where it’s often hard to see the doctors more than once a day or for longer than a brief check in. He’s very very nice and made conversation helping make my grandmother feel more comfortable and cared for. He was not hard to get a hold of either.
