Dr. Eric Michael Benson, MD

I've gone to Dr Benson for 3 or 4 years and have always found him to be thorough and thoughtful. I've never felt my questions or concerns were being brushed off. He's appropriately clinical, in my view. While he's always been friendly, he's not a bubbly guy, and I am 100% fine with that. I don't need my GP to be my best friend, I just need to trust they are providing good care. I've never felt rushed -- in fact, I've found him to take a lot of time to sit and talk and calmly explain things and hear me out. That's not to say that others haven't had good experiences. It's just that my own experience has been very positive over the years.

I went to this doctor for the first time for some unusual and random health concerns. I told him at the beginning of the appointment that I do have panic disorder and that these symptoms were not related to anxiety. Doctors tend to assume that every issue an anxious patient has is due to anxiety, so I told him up front that these were very different symptoms. I am 41 and have had panic attacks since I was 18, so I know and am very familiar with EVERY symptom that arises with panic disorder. He proceeded to tell me that my numb face was more than likely due to anxiety from breathing incorrectly! Seriously? Again, I have never had this issue in all of my years with panic disorder. Never. Not to mention the fact that none of these symptoms come on because I am breathing rapidly. They happen randomly, while I am relaxing or in a very calm state. Again, not anxiety symptoms. He proceeded to tell me he would run a blood test AFTER I told him that four months ago all of my blood work came… back normal. On a side note: my blood pressure at this appointment was rather high for me, personally, and was pre-hypertension according to the new standards set forth by the medical community. The last four doctors appointments I have had, my blood pressure was also high, as well. When I asked him if I should be concerned, especially since heart disease runs in my family. He said, "No! Your blood pressure is fine." Really? Because normally my blood pressure is 115/70. Sounds like some pretty big changes over the past year. I felt as though he saw me as another anxious person coming in for a made up symptom. Definitely not a fan!

UC Health and Dr. Benson stopped my appointment with an internist because he wanted me to see him first. He has always blown off my problems as minor and I've had to go to specialists elsewhere. Which have included major surgeries. Just an extra cost and profit center to UC Health. This is a new low. We will be moving our family from him and UC Health even though we've been their for over 15 years.

Dr. Benson did not listen to what my problem and treated what he felt important. Which was not what he was asked to do. Went to see him for menopause and went for a year with high blood pressure and other problems. He prescribed a medication and when told that it was making me hurt and that I had no energy he stated " it can't be the medician " Finally reminded him of the original problem and then he sent me for additional blood test and had his staff call the next morning to say "stop taking the last medication because it had caused my kidneys for start failing.

I have visited Dr. Benson on a number of different occasions and I always felt that he has very poor bedside manner. He doesn't care for small talk and at times when he asks that you explain what your symptoms are, you get a sense that he's already diagnosed you before you can finish what you're saying. His diagnosis is fast and once he's made it he's already halfway down the hall and on to the next patient. Have a lingering question? You might as well stow it because the guy doesn't want to hear it. Do you want a followup from him to see how you're doing or if you've missed an appointment? Find another practitioner because you're just another number in a heard. Oh, and are you a fatty? Dr Benson doesn't care for fat people. Your weight will be the problem for what ever ails you.

I do not know why people are unhappy with him. The few times I saw doctor Benson he listened carefully, answered all questions, prescribed the right medicine that helped me quickly. He was polite, patient and caring just like any doctor should be.

He is difficult to deal with, even the staff is afraid to ask him questions regarding patient care. Takes days and days to respond, if not weeks. He does not care if patients are treated with the meds they need or not. It all has to be on his time I guess.

This doctor was a real jerk. I cannot believe he is practicing, rather than doing research. He has no business in a caring profession.

A total waste of my time and money. This guy has no idea what he is doing.

This guy is an idiot.
