Dr. Eric Kanoalani Mayer, MD

I was skeptical after my first visit with Dr Mayer because he seemed dismissive and thought he already knew what was wrong. But, he ordered some tests and I figured I'd give him a chance until we saw what the test revealed. It turns out I needed injections in my spine for the inflamed nerves due to compressed discs. The procedure was TRAUMATIC. Even when the x-ray was showing him exactly where to do the injections, he proceeded to stick all these needles in me (not the medicine), without telling me what he was doing or why. Each time he hit a nerve and I experienced excruciating pain. When I told him where the pain was, he replied, "Oh, I was even close to that spot". He stuck me at least 6 times, each time aggravating a different nerve and putting me in pain before he started to inject the medicine. He told me to count backwards from 20 and I was screaming out the numbers because it hurt so bad. He didn't preface the medicine with explaining what I should expect to feel as he was… injecting it. The cherry on top is they sent me home WITHOUT any post procedure instructions. I have friends who have had the same procedure with different doctors and they told me not to get the bandages wet or remove them for 24 hours. It would have been nice to have been told that, or better yet been given a piece of paper with post procedure instructions. Worst medical experience in my life. If my pain comes back and I have to get other injections, I'll not be going back to this doctor. TRAUMATIZED.

Bed side manners are insulting of me and my wife’s intelligence. Bad communication skills. More of a comic and bad analogies that I didn’t think was funny. Won’t be back!!!!!

Dr. Mayer is very good at talking but lacks listening skills. The Practice is horrible at returning patient calls. After dancing with this Doc for 2 years, I'm going elsewhere.

He stopped often to ask if I understood what he was telling me. He made me feel very comfortable and free to ask questions. Both my husband and I were extremely please with the time he spent with me, both listening and giving me a plan. He even personally called my physical therapist to create a plan for me.

I have been being treated Dr Mayer for a few months. He is a great listener and explains everything in "english" for me (and my 10 yr old son) to understand. The problem has not been solved yet but the pain is much more bearable.

I have had a problem for 9 years and Dr. Mayer reassured me that it would improve and it did. Set me at ease with humor and funny analogies.

Very knowledgeable in neurology and pain associated with.

Dr. Mayer had his mind made up before he saw my husband that he wasn't worth helping. This was my husband's second visit, much to our trepidation. The first visit didn't go well 2 years ago, my husband didn't do his 8 week follow-up visit because of this. We decided to give Dr. Mayer another try at the suggestion of another physician. WHAT A MISTAKE!

I was really afraid that my vacation would be ruined. I had missed 3 days of work and had a vacation coming up. I was seen, diagnosed and treated with a great injection. Who had ever heard of Shneck, but he was right.
