Dr. Eric Alan Strom, MD

Dr Strom is my Radiation Oncologist at MD Anderson. He is brilliant of course but also kind and caring. He asks about all aspects of the treatment and is able to detect issues that others on the team are too hurried to notice. I am blessed to have him on my care team

Dr. Strom will start off positive, warm & uplifting as an attempt to get his patients to agree to his recommended radiation treatments. He is happy to answer any question and goes out of his way to make a patient feel comfortable and at ease (although he gives misleading responses regarding success rates and only speaks to the ‘positive’ side and success stories instead of more factual and realistic statistics). He will even personally call you to persuade you into treatment. Once you agree to treatment, his bedside manner quickly disappears and he becomes impatient and unwilling to answer even reasonable questions regarding radiation therapy side effects and risks. You will never receive another personal phone call, not even to check on you after aggressive treatment. If he senses you have concerns with how radiation treatment is going, it will become impossible to reach him via email or phone, there will be close to no follow through or transparency. There will not be honest… answers from him. If his radiation treatment ends up not being successful and he then recommends more and you decline, he is downright rude and unprofessional and shuts down – he has no use for you anymore. His goal is to push as much radiation therapy as possible even if success of treatment is unlikely. Profits first mentality and doesn't genuinely care for his patients.

Despite his superior intellect and idiosyncratic nature, he is surprisingly relatable and compassionate. He’s the best in his field and he knows it. Despite that, he’s likable and great with patients

Dr Strom was my radiology oncologist at MD Anderson. He is the most kind and caring doctor I’ve ever known. He is positive and upbeat when he enters the room, and has the most wonderful and boistrous laugh. His attitude is infectious. You can’t have a bad day around this ray of sunshine. As far as treatment, he is EXCELLENT. His knowledge and skill is beyond belief. He is concerned about every facet of treatment. He makes himself available and will stay until every question is asked and answered. Dr Strom is a gifted healer. I am blessed to have had him for my radiology oncologist, and will be forever grateful that God put me on a path to the best. God bless Dr Strom for who he is and the healing he performs.
