If you're looking for a healthcare provider who is concerned about your health, he is not the physician for you. Spends the majority of the time typing, not actively listening to concerns, very quick to judge and extremely dismissive as if he knows more about your body than you ever could.

I like Dr. Whittier, though his prostate examination method could be gentler. My issue is with the group with which he is affiliated. After being diagnosed with an orthopedic condition requiring surgery, I was given the option of two whole doctors from whom to choose, neither of whom were referred due to their expertise, but rather because of their financial relationship with Exempla. While the group COULD make an exception to allow a highly qualified surgeon (who IS on my insurance company's list of providers) to do my surgery, it was instead suggested I shop around for another Primary Care Physician, solely on the basis of him/her being able to refer the doctor I want to see--as if it were as simple as picking a different brand of canned peas. The cavalier attitude exhibited by the person making that suggestion was jarring, to say the least. Since selecting Dr. Whittier also entails being held captive to specialists referred for solely for financial reasons, rather than… what's best for the patient, I will have to sever the relationship I've developed with him and begin the crap-shoot that is finding another PCP. This is not a decision patients should have to make. Because Dr Whittier is hamstrung by the constraints of a limited (and in some areas of medical care, nonexistent) referral network, I don't recommend making him your PCP.
