Erick Rath is a fifth generation native South Dakotan who obtained a B.S. degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1985, and received his Dental degree from Creighton in 1989.  He has been a Dentist-Scientist Fellow at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill from 1989-1997, receiving his Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience.  A Certificate for completing four years of residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was earned during that time, as well.  Dr. Rath has served as a Clinical Instructor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of North Carolina, and was an Asst. Professor and Attending Surgeon in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Oral Biology at The Ohio State University Medical Center and College of Dentistry in Columbus, Ohio from 1997 through 2001.  Dr. Rath passed his national board exam for the American Assocation of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 2002.
Dr Rath has been an officer in the …American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Clinical Interest Group on Neurological Disorders.  Being active both clinically and scientifically, he has been funded at the national level for research in the diagnosis and management of nerve injuries in the mouth and face.  He has given presentations throughout the United States and published numerous articles and chapters on this topic.  While at The Ohio State University, Dr. Rath was Co-Director of the Dentofacial Deformity Program for the evaluation and treatment of skeletal abnormalities of the face.  In addition, he served as a consultant and attending surgeon for the Level 1 maxillofacial trauma services provided by The Ohio State University Hospitals, and Children's Hospital of Columbus.
Dr. Rath is married and the father of three daughters.
