Dr. Erik Michael Happ, MD

Dr. Happ did a poor job on my eyelid reduction. His just before surgery, three second measurement method of pinching my lids with his fingers, quickly marking dots with a sharpie pen and not checking to see if his markings were symmetrical resulted in me still having excess skin folds with noticeable bumpy asymmetrical scars from stitching being too tight and puckered, creating new folds right in the middle of my eyelids. I revisited Dr. Happ to show him the results of his hurried, unprecise measurements and sloppy stitching. His response.. If I had taken off too much skin, you couldn't close your eyes resulting in ulcerations. As a specialist, he should be able to measure correctly to remove all excess skin from lids without taking off too much. He does get kudos for calling to check on me when I got home from surgery. Wish I had gone to Dr. Carie Lyle with Pgh Ocuplastic Assoc. who did a beautiful job on my friend's eyelid reduction - no droop, smooth, SYMMETRICAL undetected scars.

Eyelid surgery went well, but his suturing technique was amateurish. Several stitches popped open, and I was black and blue for two weeks. Result: ugly and uneven scaring on my eyelid. I will never go back to him.

I've dealt with many incompetent doctors over the years, this guy takes the cake.

Was EXTREMELY impressed with Dr Happ. Confident and well-assured but not arrogant, personable, knowledgeable, and I can just tell from his demeanor well-experienced in his uber-specialty field. I believe he's also the head of his dept at the AGH location, which gives me extra confidence. I had met 5 other Orbital/Occuloplastic Ophthalmologist Surgeons prior and 3 of the 5 were dismissive to me AND the Rheumatology ordered consult for biopsy and had RIDICULOUSLY unprofessional elitist bedside manners (yes its a small field here in Pitt but there's no excuse for being rude and obnoxious) so thank you for "sending" me in this direction. I knew the minute I met Dr Happ he was the right guy. I trust his knowledge and skill and am confident that I chose the right surgeon for this biopsy. HOWEVER, THE ADMIN STAFF AT HIS AGH LOCATION IS AS UNPROFESSIONAL AT HIS PEERS THAT I NOTED ABOVE, EXCEPT TO ME ITS WORSE BECAUSE YOU CAN (THOUGH SHOULDN'T) "EXPECT" THAT FROM A SURGEON. I LOATHE… CALLING THE OFFICE 20-30 MIN CALLS ON AVG, THE OUTBOUND MESSAGE IS 5 DAYS LONG, YOU'RE ON HOLD FOREVER AND THEN IF YOU DO GET SOMEONE, THEY ARE RUDE, SNIDE, SHORT, AND VERBALLY ANNOYED WITH ANY PERCEIVED DISSENT (I CAN'T DO THAT DAY TIME ETC) WHICH MAKES THEM SUPER ANNOYING TO DEAL WITH. IDK I DIDN'T DO THIS, I DIDN'T DO THAT, I HAVE NO IDEA, I COULDN'T TELL YOU, NO WE CANNOT COPY YOUR FIM DISK "OH WELL" ATTITUDE I ASKED FOR THE OFFICE MANAGER AND WAS TOLD SHE WAS OUT. FLAT. THEN I SAID WELL PLEASE GET WHOMEVER IS IN CHARGE. DR HAPPS SECRETARY/AA WAS VERY HELPFUL HOWEVER SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE. AFTER POST OP APPT I WILL NOT RETURN TO THE AGH OFFICE. EVER! THE EXECUTIVE IN CHARGE OF RUNNING THIS OFFICE SHOULD BE AGHAST AT THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE CHECKIN AND CHECKOUT PROCESS. THIS PERSON NEEDS FEEDBACK, OR A PIP, AND SATISFACTION METRICS OR SHOULD BE REPLACED. THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR THE WAY PX ARE TREATED AT AGH OFFICE.

This doctor did eyelid surgery on me. I have RLS and it apparently had been acting up while I was put to sleep for the surgery. There was one point when I woke for a split second and he said “be still” then I was out again. While in recovery, my legs were acting up. The nurse said they were like that during the whole surgery. Under those circumstances, he should have called off the surgery until that problem was taken care of. As a result, my eyelids don’t look as good as they should. I’m very disappointed!

On two different occasions I made numerous phone calls to try to schedule a surgery procedure. The staff doesn’t return phone calls and at my initial appointment with Dr. Happ I found him to be rude and extremely uninformative not to mention that I had a 2:00 appointment and never saw him until 4:00. There weren’t any emergencies for him, just overbooked. He is so arrogant that he didn’t even apologize for making me wait two hours. I can’t imagine how anyone could trust a doctor of such low caliber. Both Dr. Happ and his entire staff give Allegheny Health System a very bad reputation!!!

Dr. Happ is very friendly and uses analogies to help you understand. I was impressed with my appointment.

Very disappointed in him. Unprofessional in many ways. More concerned with other things in his office than listening to me.

Dr Happ was amazing! My eyelid surgery was done in the office and I had no pain and he was very comforting!

Dr. Happ had poor listening skills and bad bedside manner. In the middle of me speaking to him he turned around pulled out his phone and started dictating. That also confirmed he did the listen because what he stated wasn't what I said.
