Dr. Erik Thomas Mcgoldrick, MD

I saw Dr Mcgoldrick yesterday for hip and leg pain. He walked into the exam room, with a photocopy of the pelvic X-ray taken at the ER last week); and without asking me one question about my pain (where the pain was and how bad it was) said “it’s not your hip, it’s your back”. I tried to explain where my pain is (groin, and left leg) and how intense my pain is (8 out of 10), but, although he acknowledged my pain, there was no empathy. At one point he asked me to stand and walk across the room but I limped because of my pain. He told me to stand up straight. I told him that I can’t put weight on my left leg. He seemed exasperated with me and told me I need to change my mindset and do research to find exercises for my sciatica. I didn’t know I have sciatica since that has always been on my right side and the location of my pain is very different than the pain I had with sciatica. In any case, I told him that my neurosurgeon had referred me for physical therapy and a pain management Dr 2… weeks ago but that I hadn’t recieved a phone call from either of them, he said “Well it’s not like I can pick up a phone and get you an appointment the Physical Therapy and make you an appointment”. At that point I left in tears limping to my car. Here is my message to Dr Mcgoldrick: I deserved better! Your interactions with me made me feel dismissed. Do the residents of Humboldt County a service and work on your bedside manners. I’m sure your orthopedic surgery skills are fine, but there is more to being a physician than X-rays, bones and surgery.

Dr. Mcgoldrick and his team are amazing, excellent work. I came in by air ambulance with a broken femur (3 pieces) and fractured pelvis, etc. This was a very difficult emergency surgery and their work was top. I'm 7 weeks post surgery and my x-ray images show perfect placement of bones, rod and screws. I'm very grateful to the Dr. Mcgoldrick and his ortho team at St. Josephs, I can't thank them enough for the quality of their surgery and care.

I saw Dr. McGoldrick for shoulder pain and we agreed that my left shoulder should be replaced. Surgery went great; hospital stay was great; recovery was great in spite of my age (77). What I especially like about Dr. McGoldrick is that he is patient and willing to educate and explain everything. He even gives his patients his email address and responded quickly to my questions and concerns. He comes with very high respect from other orthopedic surgeons which is how I was referred to him.

Doctor was pleasant, Lady at the counter I believe her name was SUE!very sarcastic, when we checked in (my wifes the patient)I gave her SUE my business card,where some of the money comes from for the doctors charges,literally threw it back at me. I would think doctor couldfind someone with a better personality. My wife worked 20years with federal express, never a attitude like that person ,imsure the Name was SUe looked about to be in here 60s,

After reading the good reviews on here, I was quite hopeful that his care would be decent. But because I have a rare, genetic disease, he refused to treat me. This disease does allow for the treatment he denied me. He gave me a PT slip (didn't even send it to my insurance - just told me to go find a PT on my own) and didn't ask for me to come back for a follow up at all to see if my shoulder pain had diminished. It was awful and he was dismissive.
