Dr. Erik Marvin Sayles, MD

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Erik Sayles. I saw him for severe complex TMJ disorder. I will start this review by saying I have dealt with many, many Drs in the last 15 years because of the MS and several co-morbid illnesses that I've had to contend with. I have a well rounded experience with Drs who make a difference and those who don't. With saying that, I highly recommend Dr. Erik Sayles, Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is a doctor who makes a difference. He was on time, alert and attentive, extremely knowledgeable. Who also carries the best bedside manner and is friendly, compassionate, listened, intelligent, thought outside the box, thorough with exam, and thorough with suggestions and options to proceed forward, as well as, has great follow up to make sure you are well taken care of. He made sure that I was completely comfortable with all the decisions along the way.

Dr. Erik Sayles caused me unneeded physical pain and ongoing oral surgeries beyond 3 years from 2x botched oral implant procedures on my front tooth. He had a tooth retainer made that I paid out of pocket for that actually undermined the surgery causing it to FAIL. I have since gone to a Periodontist, who handled my surgery in such a different manner. Every single part of the procedure starting with numbing the pain was better. They couldn't even explain to me the type of bone material they were putting in my mouth. They took whatever they had on the shelf there. My current physician carefully picked the correct material to allow the surgery to adhere at all. My procedure took this time. But I'm still in the middle of it because he is taking the additional time needed for proper healing. But this time, I don't have the good insurance I had when I went to their group, and I am paying all of it myself! I've requested a refund of all my out of pocket costs, but they are being difficult… with this request too. I attribute Dr. Erik Sayles for all this anguish. If you're inclined to go to this group after this scathing review, please stay away from that one for your own good.

I met Dr Erik Sayles of this practice for a consultation and found him to be arrogant, condescending and argumentative. He spoke down to me and disagreed with me when I reported certain facts of my medical condition. He said he would only use novocaine for a molar extraction despite the fact that I expressed nervousness and anxiety over the procedure. He never once asked if I was experiencing any pain (and I was certainly was) and tried to get me to delay extraction for another month. I did NOT proceed to have him extract my tooth. Instead I found a very kind and considerate doctor and staff in Middletown. Everyone there put me at ease and allowed me to chose a twilight anesthesia. I can highly recommend Dr Steven Carney who is the complete opposite of Dr Erik Sayles.

Dr. Sayles and his staff deserve the "five-star rating" for their compassion and expertise. Dr. Sayles came highly recommended and, after two experiences, I also recommend him. Dr. Sayles explains everything from start to finish. His staff takes a great deal of time to explain the "oral home-care" procedure. I wish there was a button for negative stars for this review. Sayles (and I hesitate to refer to him as a professional Dr.)caused me the most extensive and excruciating pain I have ever felt in my entire life. He could have cared less when I had to return repeatedly and a simple abscessed tooth resulted in multiple surgeries to fix the issue. Even the admitting doctors at the hospital were upset I ahdn't been sent to them weeks prior to when I was told to go to the hospital (after Sayles went on vacation and another Dr told me to get to emergency immediately!) This guy should not be allowed to practice! Period!!!!! I have read several of the other low ranked reviews on this site and completely agree with all of the comments so I will not reiterate them. I will be seeking every site possible to warn people off this guy before he messes them up as much as he did to me. I wouldn't give him the steam off my you know what.

This guy just barges into the room, doesn't even introduce himself. Gets annoyed that I wasn't going forward with an implant so he rushes through the extraction process like a maniac who has someplace else he'd rather be. He didn't inject novocaine like a normal dentist, he just stabbed me in the mouth with a huge needle. Almost falls into my lap while drilling like a maniac, then gets up and goes right back to drilling as if nothing had happened. Starts pulling with so much force he literally ripped the tooth socket and the tooth out. He had to cut out the buckle plate and soft tissue to make a larger opening to remove the tooth with a large portion of my upper jaw attached to it. Then he just tells me to put ice on it and leaves. He didn't bother to tell me he cut out the buckle plate or why. I had to find out 5 days later when it was completely infected from my general dentist. This is not an exaggeration, this actually happened as described and I am writing this as a warning to all… of you. Do not let this maniac do any dental work on you or your family.

I was a little nervous needed wisdom teeth pulled and I was in a lot of pain. I was also nervous about the reviews online for this doctor but quickly figured out it it seemed to be the same few people writing the reviews in different places. So I took a chance ( in pain) and happy I did this dr is wonderful! He is not short or rude, just from NJ lol ..the procedure was really quick and it was over so fast I didn’t even know I was done. I was given complete instructions on what to do and couple days later I was back at work! Quick but skilled. Staff and doctor were great.

I had a consult with Dr. Sayles a couple weeks ago. I need to get four teeth extracted. I have had some pretty traumatic experiences with dentists when I was younger. As a result, I have a great deal of anxiety & fear when it comes to dental procedures. Dr. Sayles did nothing but stoke those fears. The staff & his assistant were lovely. No issues there. Dr. Sayles, however, seemed like he was in a HUGE rush. He didn't even introduce himself to me and he spoke so fast I barely had time to digest what he was telling me. He took one look at my x-rays and asked me if I had any interest in saving any of my teeth that were due to be extracted. I said "Well, yes -- I was hoping that we could save the back left tooth if possible" He then replied with "eeehhhh we'll just take em' all out".....ok? Why did you even ask me that question, then? He was so rushed and spoke so fast that I felt uncomfortable asking him any more questions. This guy has no "bedside" manner at all. Suffice it to say that… my anxiety level was through the roof for the remainder of the day. I then went online and read some reviews about Dr. Sayles that pretty much solidified my gut feeling about going elsewhere for a second consult. I do not want this man anywhere near my mouth. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The last thing I need is another traumatic dental experience.

I had several teeth extracted yesterday and it was the worst experience of my life! He never introduced himself to me and was very rushed and short with me! He didnt explain anything he was doing! The novicane injections were injected so fast and hurt incredibly! What about going "slow and steady" to make it less painful? He was more concerned about who was going to pay him for the tooth that had been previously extracted but the root was left in since my insurance had already paid for that procedure!! The worst part was the bottom tooth wasnt numb enough and it was very painful, i expressed my pain and was bawling my eyes out!! He stated " stop moving, im almost done, youre fine"!! NO i wasnt fine, upon telling him again it hurt, he just dismissed my pain and stated, " youre fine, im almost done"!!! Maybe just maybe he should have stopped and given me more novicane???!! The second he was done, he left the room without saying a word! The assistant however was amazing and she explained… and answered all my concerns and questions! My daughter went back in the office to speak to someone about how rude and dismissive Dr Sayles was and he was at lunch and couldnt speak with her!! Never ever again will i see him if i have to return to that practice for any reason! I am a medical assistant and have worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years and i have never witnessed anything so incompassionate in my life! His bedside manner is horrible!!

I had some misgivings going in due to some low reviews I had read online, but I was seen in a timely manner, (wait was about 15 minutes), and the staff was friendly and pleasant. Doctor Sayles explained every step of the procedures he was about to do. He was personable, professional and efficient during my extraction and bone graft. Everything went as could be expected. He gave me detailed instructions for aftercare. I would have no problem recommending him to my family and friends.
