Dr. Erik Anthony Whitfield, MD

Dr. Whitfield has been wonderful. He is incredibly patient, always moving at my pace with an attitude that is understanding and respectful. I found him to be very holistic in his approach to combining medication with therapy, but also very grounded and practical. He is undoubtedly brilliant, which is a quality that may intimidate some, but above all he listens and truly considers everything I think and feel. His perspective to the treatment of mental illness is scientific and psychoanalytic. He is firm, but deeply compassionate. He doesn't back down, hide or wiggle away from issues of confrontation, which may make a demanding patient angry. But for me, he has been the absolute best.

Dr. Whitfield really listens. He works with you to find solutions and the meds that work best.

You can barely ever get a hold of him. Waste of money.

I have gotten the impression that Dr. Whitfield does not believe in holistic psychiatry, but purely med driven. He could possibly help a patient to lose hope and believe that they can not get better and not encourage recovery. He did not seem to encourage helpful alternative treatments or therapy. I believe his ego to cause life-defeating results. I did not see that he was well versed in up to date knowledge and research on mental illness and the many books and research that states that 80-90% of most diagnosed with mental illness do not really have mental illness, but possibly PTSD. I would search out a holistic psychiatrist and a therapist or program that believes you can recover and encourages spiritual healing and growth. I would not recommend this doctor.
