Dr. Erika Banks, MD

I expressed to this doctor when I was referred to her by Dr. Seraji for a second opinion because I was 20 and had adneomyosis and strong suggestions of D.I.E and I have expressed to her multiple times I did not want to be on birth control any more. I have gone through 4 different medications, and she kept discussing more invasive birth controls that I did not want to put my body through. I expressed to her multiple times I was not interested, and she kept telling me a hysterectomy wont help with adneo even though it has been proven to be the most effective treatment and the only definitive cure. She then started bringing up how SA can make the pain worse, and when I opened up about my personal history, she told me "a hysterectomy wont help with your pain". I kept bringing up my concerns about checking for endometriosis or doing a laparoscopy to check for it, but she just refused to or gave vague answers, and instead kept bringing up and constantly talking about doing more invasive… birth control treatment. I was already emotional at that point after what she said and feeling invalidated after expressing my concerns with doing IUD, the shot, or implant, considering I have already faced medical misogyny in Texas as well when I was trying to seek help there. It wasn't even necessary to put me through more birth control since I have already attempted four different times and my insurance would have accepted it, but I eventually gave up and felt peer pressured after she kept constantly bringing it up over and over again. She referred me to a psychiatrist after telling her the birth control gave me horrible depression and side effects while being on it and then pressuring me to go on it again, which I did not appreciate at all. The doctors around me asked if I was okay after crying and when they asked if I wanted to go on it I told them I didn't want to and felt like I didn't have a choice. I ended up doing the implant and was also not told how bad the pain from the anesthesia would be, I was left screaming in pain from how bad it was and then felt really traumatized after my experience. After already feeling invalidated from before and feeling like I did not have access to my own autonomy, this was by far the most traumatizing experience I have ever gone through with a medical provider and I feel reluctant to try to see another endometriosis specialist again.

Worst doctor ever if you think of going to dr Erika banks run she’s a liar. And she almost killed me my surgery took six hours and 56 days in the hospital with two more surgeries lost half the blood in my body and my surgery was supposed to be 45 minutes then she took my woman hood from me and never told me I found out from another gyn that I went too and I was I. Disbelief not one time when I was in the hospital she told me this what she done I kept saying all I came here for was for partial hysterectomy it’s been two years later while I was in the hospital I kept saying it hurt when I get examined she didn’t care going to a gyn is very painful can’t have sex and my husband of 15 years left me she destroyed my life and I suffered so much in the hospital she clip an artery and I was bleeding internally and she knew it because she said she see lots of liquid in my stomach but it wasn’t liquid. It was blood and wanted to take me in for another surgery but instead she wanted to send me… home and I kept on saying I was weak so on the third day I was able to come home then return back the next day. She’s very wicked run. Never let this lady touch you this doctor, Dr. Erika Banks.

I had a long and painful journey with adenomyosis that started in 2012, by 2018 I was recommended to switch over to Dr. Banks who would be better suited to help me. Long story short, she placed me on BCP, when that failed, we went with the IUD, and when that failed within a few months, she performed a vaginal hysterectomy. She is a GYN that believes in exhausting every possible medical option before a major surgery; and for that I am grateful. She's really a great physician. I would recommend her. S.G.
