Dr. Sharkey, born and raised in upstate New York, earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Binghamton University. Inspired to become a dentist after a traumatic injury to her front teeth in seventh grade, she gained experience working in an underserved dental office before earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Passionate about providing care to underserved populations, she participated in Mission of Mercy projects throughout Virginia. After dental school, Dr. Sharkey completed a residency at The University of Florida's program in St. Petersburg, attended continuing education courses at The Dawson Academy, and earned her fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She then worked as an associate in Asheville, North Carolina, before returning to Richmond. An active member of AGD, ICOI, ADA, and Richmond Dental Society, Dr. Sharkey became a Fellow of the AGD in 2021, a designation achieved by only 6% of dentists in …North America. She is dedicated to giving back to the community and building long-term patient relationships based on comfort, trust, and communication.
