Dr. Erin M Talaska, MD

Prior to meeting Dr. Talaska, I had already seen 6 different OBGYN's regarding my endometriosis. Everyone knew a little about the disease, but not enough to really help. All seemed to try but overall, when the disease started affecting other parts of my body and my life, I was always told "There's nothing more we can do." All 5 of my surgeries seemed to have long recovery times and I never really seemed to feel better. Up until this point I had all male doctors. Not that male doctors aren't great, but I was beginning to think that even if doctors didn't know much about my disease, maybe I should see a woman, because then at least she would understand the feelings, pain, and emotion of the disease, just because she is a woman. So I did some research, called the women's health center and requested an appointment. From the very beginning, she told me her level of knowledge on the disease, she showed compassion for how I was feeling, without blaming my emotions on depression or telling… me it was all in my head like many Dr's in the past...She also was not judgemental to the fact that I am homosexual, as in the past I have told Dr's that information because with the disease I have, sex hurts so much. I have had other Dr's tell me that if Im with a woman I can just not use toys and my problem will go away, which would make me feel very judged and hurt. When I explained everything to Dr. Talaska, I felt a feeling of care and relief that I had not felt from any health care provider in almost 6 years. She gave me options, told me my risks, and helped me make informed decisions regarding my healthcare. She has been a wonderful asset to my care. After doing the first exploratory surgery, I recovered very well, with no complications. She is amazing. I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy done in a week, and I couldn't feel more comfortable and proud that she is the one in the driver seat of my health for this. Thank you Dr. Talaska.
