For Errick Y. Arroyo, M.D., you might say medicine runs in the family. The son of a general surgeon, Dr. Arroyo grew up around medicine and initially was attracted to a career in surgery. “Medicine is unique because it allows you to help a person on so many different levels,” Dr. Arroyo says. “I decided to go into obstetrics and gynecology because I wanted to be able to develop a long-term medical relationship with my patients—to get to know them personally and to have a positive impact over a long period of time.”
Dr. Arroyo also is married to a physician. Dr. Arroyo and his wife Kathy have two daughters, so Dr. Arroyo is especially interested in empowering women to take charge of their own health and their own lives. “I want my patients to feel completely free to come to me about anything,” he says.
Dr. Arroyo points out that one of the most exciting advances in women's health care today is minimally invasive surgery. “Along with new discoveries comes the …responsibility of a common sense approach and the considerations of the consequences of the new technology,” Dr. Arroyo says. “I strive to provide my patients with that balance."
Away from the practice, Dr. Arroyo devotes as much time as possible to his family. He enjoys the piano, having studied formally in college and performing in concert on several levels. He also takes great pleasure in developing his expertise in Filipino cooking. "Of course, I'm not as good as my Mom, but I still enjoy it,” he adds.
