Ervin Braun, practiced out of Darien and is from Old Greenwich, should not be allowed to practice dentistry! When he was treating me, he was on call over the weekend when I called him several times on a Saturday and didn’t get a call back from him until Monday. I went to the emergency room 3 times because I couldn't get a call back from him. My face blew up the size of a balloon to the point that my face was deformed on one side. When he finally got back to me on Monday, he said the reason he didn't call was because people get a chipped tooth and wait until the weekend to call him, so he wasn't going to call me back over the weekend... even though he was on call! This was no chipped tooth and he was on call! It shouldn't take 3 days and lots of phone calls to him and 3 emergency room visits to get a returned call! My last phone call to him on Monday was from the emergency room, letting him know I’m in the emergency room… AGAIN! Finally, on Monday, he came in the office and met… with me and pulled the tooth.
I go back to him for one of our regular visits and he tells me I should cap all the teeth in the back while we are working on that one tooth back there that blew up my face, where we were putting in an implant, and that I should do it all at the same time. I said I would love to but I can't afford it, I needed to do a tooth at a time. He takes it upon himself to file down two good teeth on either side of the one that he pulled and the reason he said he did it was to put a temporary in place of the pulled tooth! I didn't want a temporary back there, didn't need it, and didn’t ask for it.
I said at some point I would cap my teeth but not now and not all at once. Well he decided he wasn’t going to listen to me and filed down those two perfectly good teeth next to the one that had been pulled. By filing down those teeth it would force me to get the caps for those two teeth. The bill had been getting paid all along so I guess he assumed he could tack something else on the bill and that would get paid too… I knew my financial situation better than he did and I knew I didn’t have the money for it. He destroyed 2 perfectly good teeth.
Then he put an implant in the upper left. He didn't even put it in the right way... it's poking out of the front of my gum. Another dentist look at it and said it can't be used it has to come out.
In the lower left, he put in two implants. These two teeth were towards the front and needed temporaries. Another dentist told me one of the implants; the cap was the wrong size tooth. And while I had to wear temporaries, they were the ugliest, most disgusting temporaries I had ever seen. I thought, okay just live with it and pray he doesn't do permanent caps that way! The temporaries besides being really ugly, they kept falling off... One of the teeth, the one that is the wrong size is still in, the implant he did next to that one, you could see the threading on the implant. Eventually the cap and implant were moving so much, where I could move it with my tongue, it had to come out.
Braun is wealthy guy, not only from being a dentist but from other things too; he has access to the best of everything... and anyone who knows him knows what I’m talking about… My thought was here's a guy who has access to the best of everything and he'll know what the best is and give me that too... But little did I know he doesn’t care what he does to you… he was a bull in a china shop, he was reckless, and overtime he told me flat out that he didn't like doing dental work. I also learned he was really treating dentistry like a hobby for several many years.
You pay all this money and you can't afford to get out and start over with someone new so you need to believe he'll fix his mistakes... But he didn't fix his mistakes, and after thousands of dollars, ALL his work will have to be redone I'm missing several teeth, out thousands of dollars, and can't afford to fix it... and to add insult to injury he reported me to a credit agency for not paying $1,800 which is a drop in the bucket for what he got paid. I told him either fix the mess or you're not getting paid the balance. It's going to cost over $30,000 JUST TO FIX HIS WORK... and I gave him the quote of what it will cost to repair just his work... and he still reported me to a credit agency. I'll have to have bone grafts and other dental type surgeries to fix his work and it will be time consuming, painful and expensive but he doesn't care.
I went to an attorney who specializes is dental related lawsuits and he said it would cost $7,000 just to get an out of state opinion of the work he did, never mind the legal costs.
Braun in charming and likable, but he has no conscience, and has an ego, and he's reckless, which makes him the worst kind of person to do business with, he cannot be trusted. I regret ever having gone to him. I have a couple of dentists who have looked at his work and they just shake their heads... The problem is it would take thousands of dollars for him to be held legally accountable, costing as much as fixing his work. He's doing other kinds of business now... and he's said he's going to be "bicoastal”... well good for him as he leaves a mess in his wake.
