Dr. Estelle Shirley Fletcher, MD

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Fletcher for almost 10 years. She always takes her time, explains everything that she is doing and always makes sure that you leave her office without any questions. Her office staff has changed a few times over the years but none of them have ever been rude or unfriendly to me or my family. I moved out of the area 4 years ago and still travel to see her because she is worth the drive.

I am so disappointed in this Dr. I am so in need of a PCP and had such high hopes, but knew this was going to be a problem when I walked in and felt the unfriendliness of the receptionist. Its a VERY small office and her receptionist apparently also doubles as her nurse. What put me off immediately was the lack of sanitary conditions. The office is quite cluttered and the exam room had deep scratches and cracks in the wall, the floor looked unclean, and there was no hand sanitizer ANYWHERE! None at the front counter and none in the exam room. There is a sink in the exam room, but apparently does not get much use. The Dr. was very unfriendly and was quite irritated because I am 73 yrs old and hearing impaired. (which I had brought to her attention at the beginning of the visit, and asked her to please raise the tone of her voice), but I had to continually ask her to repeat. She was very obvious about her irritation and still continued to speak softly which I could not here. "She… said, you need to do something about that hearing". It was not said in a compassionate, sympathetic manner. It was said with a great deal of irritability in her tone. I told her I had been checked a year ago and was told there was not much to be done with nerve deafness. Her manner in saying it was rude and uncalled for and it deeply upset me as I am very sensitive about my hearing loss. There was very little verbal interaction or conversation as she was to busy typing and scratching her face and nose, (Using the same keyboard her receptionist/nurse used without washing her hands either). When the physical exam began I kept praying she would wash her hands first, or at least a bottle of hand sanitizer would miraculously appear and she would use it, or at the very least she would use gloves as she was going to be touching my face. No such luck. I know, they tell you now days to speak up when a Dr or nurse does not wash before touching a patient, but I am basically a shy person and I felt quite intimidated by this woman and kept silent. All I wanted to do was get out of there and go home and WASH!!! Obviously tries to cut corners, but sanitation is one corner that should not be cut. Will never return to this Dr!!!!!! Also, not good with the elderly.

When I went in for a problem she wanted to discuss a million other issues that had nothing to do with what I was there for. She goes off on tangents about everything but what you need and each appointment lasted at least an hour and that was after an hour of waiting. She is very big into referring you to other people for everything. You can get appointments quick but be prepared to sit and wait for a long time. She is a nice person but I would not recommend her at all!

Dr Fletcher is absolutely the best in giving you time to discuss your issues and concerns. She is professional but non condescending. And She knows what she is doing. A geat diagnostician.
