Dr. Esther Mae Vandyke, MD

She was rude and couldn’t care less about me as a patient in the ER. She dismissed me about all my concerns. I told her I still wasn’t feeling great after 3 breathing treatments. She told me that it would take sometime and to go home and sleep and call my doctor in the morning. I was struggling to breathe when I went into the ER and it took her 40 minutes to give me a breathing treatment. I wouldn’t recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Oakley is currently working at the CMC Emergency room and is grossly, medically incompetent. I have no idea how this hospital is okay with hiring physicians that are so dangerous - putting everyone at risk. Clearly she has had trouble in past positions from the mutliple reviews I encountered online. I'm hardly surprised.

I arrived at the Corning Guthrie ER on Sep. 9, 2018 with a compression injury to my spine after cliff jumping into deep water froom 55 ft. The attending physician was Dr. Oakley. She ordered a CT scan to see the extent of my spinal injury. While waiting for the results of the scan, I had to use the restroom and requested a bed pan. The nurse said I needed to walk to the restroom instead. I asked him to please go get a second opinion from Dr. Oakley. He did, and she sent the following message back through him: "You're going to have to do this at home; you might as well start learning how to get around now." After a painful and precarious trip to the restroom, the CT scan results came back--a shattered L1 vertebra. Dr. Oakley delivered a half-hearted apology for the bathroom trip when she gave me the scan results. I noted she had no empathy and a very cold, indifferent manner about her. Her prevailing attitude seemed to be, "Guess what? You screwed up your back. And by-way-way, sorry… about the bathroom trip." I was and am still in shock. I'm not a medical professional but anyone knows you keep a patient with a back injury HORIZONTAL until you know what's going on with the spine. Dr. Oakley then transferred me to Robert Packer, which is where I should have gone in the first place, as Corning is not a trauma care center, which I didn't know. But even so, Dr. Oakley should have known better. Beware! I've never seen this level of incompetence from a doctor.
