Dr. Eugene John Nowak, MD

Be careful of Dr. Nowak he has no idea what he is doing he will make all kinds of promises and will not follow through. For instance I had him do some liposculpture on me only to have him leave the room and have his assistant take over if I wanted his assistant to take over I would’ve paid less money to have her do it. I paid full price to be seen by a physician assistant? He is full of false promises and likes to upsell all of his products and services. Be careful he were warned.

There is absolutely no way that one physician can have as many positive reviews and the norm be what the last patient has stated. Dr. Nowak has been patient, caring , meticulous and excellent surgeon. Nursing staff and hospital faculty have gone to him over all the years he’s been in practice- not only for themselves but for their extended families. The residents and med students that he has taught have the utmost respect for him as a physician. He has been given recognition and awards over the years and has sat on committees representing one of the largest academic centers. I have had he pleasure of knowing him on a professional level for 28 years. I’m sorry if anyone didn’t have a good experience- not everything can always go 100% for everyone I suppose- and everyone is entitled to state their opinion. But this man has been one of the best and deserves to be recognized for that at this time.

I should have written this review a long time ago, and in doing so, might have saved others from the possibility of a poor surgical outcome. Regretfully, I did not, but to ensure that my experience is shared moving forward, here is my story. Eleven years ago Dr. Nowak performed my mastectomy. At a post-procedure appointment, I told him that I was unhappy with the outcome because the suture line was jagged and because there was a new bulge of skin under my arm. Furthermore, I was disturbed that he had removed not just the sentinel node, as per our preop discussions, but had also taken other nodes "because they just sort of popped out." I asked him point blank if he had done the operation, or if he had allowed a medical student to do it. He said it had been his work, and asked if I would like him to repair it. I declined saying I had no cause to believe he was capable of doing a repair with any greater skill or integrity than he had done with the first pass. Every medical… professional who has seen this work since has asked me about the history of my "lumpectomy". When I report that the procedure was supposed to have been a "mastectomy", they are genuinely surprised. Optimal surgical outcomes cannot be guaranteed, of course, but Dr. Nowak's apparent lack of surgical as well as interpersonal skills left a great deal to be desired. Based on my personal experiences with him, I would highly recommend anyone searching for a surgeon look elsewhere.

I have been a patient of Dr. Nowak since 1991, when I had bilateral mastectomies. I cannot say enough about him or his staff. If I could rate him with any number, it would be as high as possible. He is so kind, caring and compassionate. To me, he could move mountains and walk on water. Being in his gentle, caring hands made my terrible surgery bearable. Years later, he helped me deal with losing my husband from pancreatic cancer. He helped my entire family and I will be forever grateful. God bless you Dr. Nowak

Dr. Nowak was highly recommended to me several years ago by another very professional doctor. Dr. Nowak just performed a mastectomy on me last July. He is truly a remarkable individual. He talks to you in a very soft tone and truly cares about your needs and concerns. He thoroughly explains everything to you and takes the time out to answer your calls the same day whether he is in surgery or not. He never pushes the idea of doing surgery without exhausting other possibilities. He never rushes you through your appointment and gives you the time and attention he gives every one of his patients. He has a staff that treat you with the same respect that Dr. Nowak does. They act like professionals and are courteous and kind at all times. They also take the time to make sure you are comfortable and doing well. You never even have to wait long in his office and while you do sit there all you hear is how happy everyone is to be a patient of Dr. Nowak's. I am PROUD to be a patient of… Dr. Nowak's and a friend of his loyal staff. They make me feel like family and they certainly are considered family to me. I would recommend Dr. Nowak to anyone who wants to be treated with compassion, kindness and dedication.

I am the wife of the reviewer below, and I was referred to Dr. Nowak because of a recurring abnormal lump in my breast which has a high possibility of being DCIS based on my history. I went to Dr. Nowak, because my I had a bad experience with my previous surgeon and I was assured Dr. Nowak was kind and gentle. This morning after I showed up for my appointment, I was told my films had not yet been received which led to confusion and multiple calls to my doctors. The receptionist raised her voice, gave me attitude and was in general unhelpful. I was fearful of not being able to keep my appointment and panicked which led to her raising her voice to me and my husband which resulted in Dr. Nowak coming out of his office and aggressively confronting my husband, threatening not to see me as we were causing problems. I ran out of there in absolute tears and I am still in tears as I write this. How absolutely unacceptable, to treat a patient who needs his help desperately and is emotionally… fragile, in this manner. Shocking and unacceptable.

Beginning with a staff that was thorough with nothing except unpleasantness, the experience with Dr. Nowak and his office lead my wife to leave the office in tears even before her examination. His receptionist is inept and rude, and Dr. Nowak himself was abusive and bullying to my wife.
