Dr. Eugene David Savitt

Dr. Savitt worked for BioTechnica Diagnostics from 1986 to 1990. There
he helped develop and market a DNA probe for the clinical detection of
the microbes that cause periodontal disease. Dr. Savitt has consulted for
numerous companies pursuing the development of dental diagnostics and products.
Dr. Savitt served for the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) as a special consultant from 1990 to
2000. During this 11 year appointment he helped design and write regulations
for dental products patients use every day, including mouth rinses, toothpastes,
bleaching products, and other over-the-counter dental products.
Dr. Savitt is widely published in the following professional journals: Journal
of Periodontology, Journal of Pedontics, Archives
of Oral Biology, International
Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, Compendium
of Continuing Education in Dentistry, Journal
of Oral Microbiology and Immunology, Practical Periodontics and Aesthetic
Dentistry, and Diagnostics and Clinical Testing.
…He has lectured nationally and internationally. He has held teaching
appointments at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Forsyth Dental Center.
In 1991 Dr. Savitt started his dental practice in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
He and his wife, Joan, have lived in Wellesley since 1985. Their
daughters have attended Wellesley Public schools; their oldest daughter
is at Carleton College in Northfield, MN.
Joan Savitt has been doing the marketing, payroll and general office support
for Dr. Savitt since the office opened in 1991. She worked with Dr. Savitt
to communicate his philosophy of dental care to prospective patients by
writing his ads and his introductory letters. She also works in the office
assisting Dr. Savitt when Kate Marshall is on vacation.
Ms. Savitt received
her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and her MBA
from Boston College. Prior to working with Dr. Savitt, she ran a successful
marketing consulting firm for small high-tech start-up companies.
