Dr. Eugene Andrew Shmorhun, MD

I'm shocked by the bad reviews. Having been a life long patient of Dr. Shmorhun and Cathy Tong NP, I would tell you they are amazing! They know what they're talking about and really care for their patients. They have gone above and beyond for me and for so many of their patients. My entire family and multiple friends are patients and we all agree they are great.

My family have been patients since 1988. We have found Dr. Shmorhun and his staff to be caring, accessible after hours, and accurate in diagnosis. When you are sick, they work you in. If you are sick after hours, there is someone on call. As the child of a family practitioner, I have high standards, and Dr. Shmorhun and his staff exceed them. I find their care to be excellent. Plus, they are incredibly nice!

I'm pretty surprised to read some of the more negative reviews here. While I will say that Dr. Shmorhun takes some getting to know and has a slightly odd bedside manner, I decided to give the practice the benefit of the doubt and go back. Compared to other local practices, I find that when I really need them they always get me in and see me promptly. Ranging from severe anxiety after the death of a close friend to a bad ear infection, both the NP and the Doctor really seemed to care and helped me out thoroughly. It has the feel of a small practice. They do seem to hate paperwork, but that I can cope with.

I have to agree with the majority of these bad reviews. The patient with the seizure issue must have caught the doc on a good day. Lukcy you! The practice has gotten progressively less patient-centered and less friendly, and the doc's manners seem to convey an "I could care less" attitude. In addition, you can forget about getting any after hour assistance or call back from the practice. It is the most convoluted system of getting in touch with an after-hours physician. Again, a reflection of "I could care less." I called on a week night and waited for more than an hour. Oh, wait, I never received a call back. The nurses are much nicer and are a bit more attentive. The doc did not used to be this way. It's too bad. Perhaps he should retire if he is tired of the practice. We will be leaving the practice. There are plenty of caring family physicians out there. No need to tolerate the disrespect and uncaring attitude.

Getting a referral from this place is the worst, he refuse to do it because it cost him money somehow and he hates the process. His bedside manner is very poor and his rudeness has been transplanted to his staff who are just as rude and unsympathetic to the working class. The typical lie is it takes them 5 days to prepare the form, I'm not sure if you have ever seen the form but it take 5 mins. to fill out. Oh wait he is so busy that he needs to process all these and review each one, one at a time. Ultimately i had to switch doctors because he was so rigid with regards to the referral system. I have three children and getting a doctors appt is hard enough with them complaining about how hard it is to draw up a referral

Dr. Shmorhun, to show what kind of man he is, one time, when I was having an atypical seizure, thought I might be having a stroke. The symptoms are similar. And he left the office with me, in his car, and drove me to Fairfax Hospital himself and got me checked in immediately, to make sure I would be okay. His office is friendly and professional, he is a sweet man and very good about talking through things to find the best solution to a problem. If he doesn't know, he says so, and refers you to a specialist without jerking you around. He's great.
