Dr. Fredric Matthew Johnson, MD

I began my early career as a Jazz trombonist prior to entering medical school in 1988. Many of the academic leadership at University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno were psychiatrists and there was considerable emphasis in the program on behavioral health. At that time, UNSOM had not started a Psychiatry Residency program. I remained in Nevada for my Family Practice residency and was fortunate to be in a program that valued and emphasized the need for clinical competency in Psychiatry.

I moved to Utah after residency where there were only 2 psychiatrists for a population of 100,000 people. I devoted at least one day per week to treating patients with mood disorders and was mentored by these outstanding psychiatrists and truly enjoyed caring for these patients. Upon my return to Las Vegas, I continued to have an interest in psychiatry, however, in a traditional family practice setting, appointments are rushed and therefore do not allow the necessary time to listen and do my …best for you, the patient.

My current practice is solely focused on Psychiatry. Your appointments with me will be set up expeditiously, you will be seen on time and there is never a reason to rush, ever. Minimum appointment time is 30 minutes. I intuitively understand people and I don’t just see the way things ought to be, I act on those insights. I have a strong sense of compassion and use my creativity to help resolve human challenges. I see how people and events are connected and am able to use that insight to help get to the heart of the matter.

I enjoy taking care of patients with a variety of challenges including ADHD/ADD, Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizure Disorders.

After thoughtful consideration, I do not participate with insurance companies. This decision allows me the autonomy and increased flexibility to be at my very best to offer the quality of care that my patients deserve. You will be provided with the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement should you wish to do so.

In addition, I devote a portion of my practice to patients at Heads Up Guidance and Wellness Center, an organization serving the traditionally under-served populations of Las Vegas and surrounding areas. I am proud to be associated with this outstanding organization.
