Dr. Fernando Marcelo Garzia, MD

Fernando M. Garzia, M.D., FACS, joins the Cardiac Surgery Program at Beebe Medical Center in affiliation with Christiana Care as director effective Jan. 1, 2007.

Dr. Garzia was formerly associate chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, PA. At Muhlenberg Dr. Garzia helped design a new and dedicated open heart operating room in 2002 and assisted in the design and implementation of a new universal care open-heart and thoracic unit that opened 2005.

He also recruited personnel, established a collaborative rounding team for postoperative care, developed policy and procedures with protocol-driven care and clinical pathways and directed a patient satisfaction oversight committee.

Previously, Dr. Garzia was a staff surgeon in the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery sections at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem PA, for six years and at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Toledo, OH, for three years.

He completed residency training in cardiovascular and …thoracic surgery at Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus and general surgery residency at the State University of New York, Brooklyn. He received his medical degree from Ohio State University in 1986 and a bachelor of science degree, cum laude, from Kent State University, OH, in 1982.
