Always have a positive response to all my meetings with Dr. Yao. Also, Dr Yao is always interested in the other areas of my medical care

Willing to take the time to listen and answers questions thoroughly at a level that we can understand.

The doctor was very attentive, listened very well and answered all my questions.

Dr. Yao is exceptional. He's knowledgeable, friendly, and patient-focused. I've been under his care for 20 years. With each visit, I always feel that I am taken care of. In a gentle way, he tells me what I need to do to improve my health and I'm motivated to act when I leave his office. He also does a wonderful job of training his staff to provide wonderful service.

I'm grateful and fortunate having Dr Yao and his team as my care providers!

Dr. Yao has provided superb and expert care both before my liver Tx 14 years ago and post Tx.

A premier liver specialist (especially in the transplant arena) who I was sent to specifically to determine a rare autoimmune issue which no one in Sonoma County was able to concretely diagnosis. Dr. Yao was able to do so and in the process may very well have saved my life and this being said sans hyperbole. In contrast to a previous reviewer, or two, I found not a single negative issue. I agree with this previous review: "Although part of an illustrious gastro team at UCSF and seemingly qualified, Dr. Yao's office is dirty, his staff either overwhelmed or just disinterested (review your records carefully--they make BIG mistakes during transcription). Yao is (albeit politely) dismissive when concerns are voiced, and is quick to perscribe or recommend invasive procedures without the necessary explanation of the cost/benefits (why is he recomending and based on what?). His bedside manner is ok, but again, he does not follow up with test results, does not ask about other symptoms, and does not explain his terminology other than in general terms all tinged with a somewhat veiled condescending manner. He may have made his money, secured his reputation, and is no longer (if ever he was) interested in the less sexy, chronic gastro issues."As for my comments, I got the distinct impression that this guy is very impressed with himself. His assistant (PA) looked very nervous… when he was with the Dr. He spent little time answering my questions and made way too many assumptions about me...I AM PROCEEDING WITH CAUTION! I might need a liver sooner rather than later. I hope my opinion doesn't blacklist me.

I have been seeing Dr. Yao for many years after being referred to UCSF for an unusual blood syndrome which has affected my liver. He has always been kind, patient, and caring. He gave me his email address in case I needed to contact him. He has always returned my calls even if he had to call in the evening. I have never felt rushed. His staff always seems very busy, but they function very efficiently and are very pleasant.

I rated Dr Yao for more than 10 visits before my liver transplant.
