Dr. Frank Joseph Bottiglieri, MD

I knew the date of conception for my first pregnancy, because it occurred during a short window of opportunity when my husband was home from a business trip and had to leave again. Doctor Bottiglieri believed he knew better because my menstrual cycle skipped the previous month. Cycles skip. It happens. He was insinuating that that I had either an affair while my husband was gone or that I was experiencing a conception by osmosis. Either way, he was wrong and refused to accept my words. After tests showed I was correct, he never admitted to his error and never apologized for his assertions. When I was in the hospital to deliver my second baby, I warned Dr. Bottiglieri that I could not have an internal fetal monitor. For some reason, I'm unable to tolerate the device entering the cervical-uterine region. The pain when this was attempted by a nurse during labor with my first baby was excruciating. Dr. Bottiglieri pretended to understand and agreed not to use the device, then promptly… inserted the device causing me pain worse than labor pains. His response? He shouted, "You need to relax, you're clenching up and causing yourself to feel pain!" Really? I didn't even know he was trying to trick me when I felt the stabbing pain. The nurse assisting him scolded me for screaming in pain and crying, defending his actions and claiming it was my fault for "clenching up." I was at the mercy of these so called professionals and I was treated as if I didn't know my own body and my own pain, as if I was lying. Sure, I clenched up AFTER being tricked and stabbed internally by the instrument. After delivery, my placenta wouldn't deliver. I was rushed to an operating room. He performed a DNC for the condition, which was Placenta Accreda. Over the next three post-pardom weeks, I was slowly bleeding out. I contacted his office several times to complain of excessive, abnormal bleeding and he refused to speak to me, telling his staff to tell me, each time, it's because I'm nursing and not to worry about it. Meanwhile, everything I read stated that my symptoms required urgent attention. I finally called and said that I was then noticing an abnormal odor along with the symptoms of weakness and excessive bleeding, etc. This was at least half way through those first three weeks. He told his staff to tell me if I'm worried I should go to the GBMC Emergency OBGYN department, so I did. The intern also expressed concerns and notified him of her concerns when she called him. She returned to the exam room to tell me his words were, "She's fine. Send her home." He refused to come in and check. At just shy of the third week, while my husband was away in Europe for business, I was home alone with a baby and a toddler, weak, developing a terrible headache, and barely able to stay awake except for the fact that I had to force myself to keep getting up to change clothes because the blood was escaping at a steady stream. The bathroom looked like a crime scene. I was bleeding to death and almost didn't call the doctor because of all the previous calls resulted in Dr. Bottiglieri having his staff shut me down. I called and even apologized for bothering them yet again (that's how I felt after calling so many times and being made to feel like I was a whiney weakling who didn't know her own body). Finally, I was told to take an ambulance to the nearest emergency room. I had to find someone to take care of my children before the ambulance arrived. It took six doctors to figure out I had Retained Placenta. One performed another DNC and I finally started to get better. I saw Dr. Bottiglieri one last time for my six-week post-pardom follow up. He had the audacity to joke and blame all of the problems on my infant daughter. Dr. Bottiglieri is an arrogant, pompous, asininely obstinate individual whose ego is incredibly dangerous to women. Based on my own experience, he believes women are too stupid to know their own bodies and that he, a man, knows better without even investigating a woman's complaint.

I had my first son 24 years ago and Dr Bottiglieri delivered my baby.He wasnt my ob doc but delivered because my doctor wasnt able to. I went home became very ill with a fever , pain and excessive bleeding, I had a retained placenta and almost died, had to go into operating room with my ob doctor and he said he didnt think I was going to make it, I was there 5 days and I made it, thankfully.I would not bring suit against Bottiglieri because I was told I would have to sue my doctor also since he had this doctor stand in for him . I regret that decision today. I was very sick and couldnt see my newborn for that 5 days I was in the hospital. I hope he is a better doctor today than he was that day all those years ago. He made a very big mistake and I suffered for his mistake. I have never written about my experience until this day, I would hope this never happens to anyone. In my particular experience I wouldnt rate any stars at all but at least one star is required.

Very compassionate with my pregnancy loss. I am now a happy first-time mom.

I used Dr. Bott during 3 of my pregnancies and surgeries. On 1 hand he is very compassionate but on the other hand is overconfident to a fault. Went through 3 pregnancy losses with him and the first 2 he was very compassionate with the 3rd it was almost liable. Did not followup on the 3rd that ended up as an ectopic, grateful for another dr that did catch it.With my 2nd miscarriage, he did come to the hospital and took over my care and I was gratefull since I hemmoraged and needed stat surgery.His lead nurse at the time was just horrible and I dreaded calling in for any questions or concerns I had.So I have mixed reviews. I guess it all depended on what kind of mood he was in and a little disconcerted that I was an informed patient and and questioned his diagnosis.

As a nervous, older, first-time mom, Dr. Bott and his staff were extremely compassionate and kind to answer all of my questions and concerns. His years of experience and expertise may be masked as over-confidence, but once in the delivery room, he is the ONLY one you want to have in charge. Addressed several complications with ease. I am the proud mother of a very healthy baby boy.
