He’s so far into his niche of personality disorders that he can’t see things objectively. I came to New York to pursue my creative endeavors was depressed and seeking help for my depression because it was in the way of my goals. He questioned whether I was really depressed despite not being able to get out of bed at the the time and he tried to discourage me from pursuing my goals. Not only that h questioned my family members who are artist whether they are really artists despite being successful at it. He’s just used to questioning the legitimacy of what his patients say which is a toxic experience for any patient to be under especially one who is struggling with depression. I would say he is dangerous especially for a young person because he is discouraging and feels it’s therapeutic to take away people’s aspirations and goals. Fit people into his mold of what he things their life should be. If you are struggling with any kind of mental illness you want to see somebody who is a… general psychiatrist or therapist not somebody who is just into a strange Freudian niche that has been discredited. If you are depressed have CBT . That’s what’s effective not what he does.

Very nice man but if you have a mental illness he is not the one to see. Everything is falsely attributed to a personality disorder instead of accurately seeing these disorders as ego dystonic and a distortion of ones true self

He's an extremely skilled therapist. I've been helped in my therapy with him and his Transference Focused or TFP technique was the only thing that helped me. I tried the other "methods" - cbt (?) or behavioral therapy and they were simpler and basic in a way but there was no change - just helpful tips and what felt like dumbed down pop psych. Think of it as a diet - a three day juice fast for water weight with the Marsha Linehan CBT therapy or a total change in the way you eat, feel and think for a life long thinner and healthier you.

He's a total Freudian ideologue. Don't go to him if you have treatment resistant depression because he will diagnose you with a personality disorder. He was so eager and excited to know that the medications didn't help me because then he could recommend endless psychodynamic therapy . I left him and got completely better with the right medication from an experienced NON FREUDIAN psychophamacologist. He totally missed that I had bipolar disorder and thats why the antidepressants weren't helping. Once I was put on a mood stablizer my moods evened out and I have been able to function no help to this total quack. By the way even if you DO have a personality disorder don't go to him. DBT and Schema Therapy are two treatments which are proven to be more effective than his,. Just fyi. So he really serves no purpose.
