Dr. Fred Harvey Hochberg, MD

Dr. Hochberg was the attending physician to my late husband, who presented with a glioblastoma at the age of 45 and died 8 months later. Hochberg treated both of us with, at best, indifference, and, at worst, inhumanity. He held out false hope that resulted in futile treatments that intensified my husband's suffering. My last encounter with him occurred when he confronted me in front of a waiting elevator and said, "We're stopping treatment. It's not doing any good." Without another word, he escaped into the elevator, and I never saw or heard from him again. I wrote an article about our experience in the Spring 1996 issue of The Pharos, titled "The Survivor's Tale." Read it and weep. Eighteen years later I still cannot forgive the pain Hochberg caused us both.
