Dr. Frederick Y Chen, MD

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Chen during is visit to UMass. He was very professional, knowledgeable, experienced and compassionate during his introduction. He has a wealth of experience in cardiac surgery and although I only required a single artery by-pass surgery, he took great care in ensuring it was done as he recommended and had followups immediately after to ensure my recovery was going well. He is well mannered and timid, however highly skilled. Although he has held (and holds) senior positions at various Boston area hospitals, he is very down to earth when it comes to communicating with his patients. I hope he never retires as his skilled hands, knowledge and patient care will be missed by the Boston community if he retires!

My cardiac surgery was 5 years ago for severe mitral valve regurgitation. I was just 52 and I am a RN. Dr. Chen was very upfront with what my options were, and what the risk vs benefit of surgical vs non-surgical treatments were. He took extra time to explain this my husband, who is not a clinical person. With Dr. Chen's input I decided I did not want to spend months-years monitoring and waiting to have more symptoms and elected to have surgery. My surgery went well, and my recovery also went well. Dr Chen was very attentive to my needs. I was home in 6 days and back to work in 8 weeks. My surgical scar is minimal, thanks to Dr. Chen's great skills. If you need cardiac surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Chen! His parting words at my 6 month follow-up visit, once you're his patient, you are always his patient. You are family now. Call for any problems. Luckily, I've not had any complications.

hello I just received a six by pass operation from dr chen and he was the most caring doctor i ever met. words cannot describe this man, his work and patient skills are second to none, He puts the family of the patients first along with the patient, he told me i was a patient for life and checked on me daily, thanks for not only saving my life but educating me on my lifestyle and diet changes.

After having a Aortic valve replacement and triple by-pass surgury performed by Dr.Chen recently,I can honestly say I have never had a more caring and professional doctor ever taking care of me. Simce I had an extra problem,having a blocked carotoid artery, he was so concerned,kind and accurate in my care. I am happy to say I am back to my self. feeling better than I have in recent years. The one thing he told me that made me feel really good was that once I was his patient, I was his patient for life. I think any one who has the oppprtunity to be treated by Dr. Chen should feel very priveledged.
