Dr. Frederick C Johlin JR., MD

My experience with Dr Johlin has been very good. He's a brilliant doctor. His bedside manner isn't awesome but I wasn't looking for a bestfriend but rather a diagnosis and treatment. Johlin spent 1.5 hours with me at our initial consultation. I believe this was longer than average but we made a breakthrough 45 minutes into the visit and he spent the time required. If you want a genius doctor then you should see him.

very good about finding everything thats wrong, when no one else can. Everywhere i went in hospital, they all said ohh, your in the best of hands, i feel they are correct.

I'd highly recommend Dr. Johlin to anyone having gastrointestinal problems. It took him one day to figure out I had a liver disease...this was missed by Mayo Clinic and every specialist back home...over six years and I was told it was mental illness. I was so sick I told my dad to have me committed. Dr. Johlin changed all that...he asked me to give him 24 hours...I trusted him....and he found it. To say he changed my life is an understatement. The doctor is genius...yes, he sometimes seems to focus on research....I guess that's why my case was written up in the Journal of the American Medical Association...I also remember the evening he sat down in my hospital room and watched "Cheers" for a few moments...he DOES care about his patients and their well-being. He is super-intelligent...he has many people to care for...he was also with me after my dad was diagnosed with the recurence of cancer...came to find me and speak to me personally....another mistake by home-town… doctors....something that could have been known by a simple blood test...should have been followed....his mind is on medicine...and how it affects lives....he cares....

My personal experience with Dr. Johlin. He strongly believes that he is "All Knowing & All Seeing", also known as a "God Complex". This doctor is not willing to admit that his knowledge may be exhausted when it comes to treatment and diagnosis of a patient's disease or disorder, especially if the disease or disorder is complicated or compounded. Very poor bedside manner, inability to relate or connect with patient on a "human" level. Notates rude, inappropriate, unrelated and emotionally damaging comments that you won't be able to forget. I know I'm not the only patient that has this experience with Dr. Fred Johlin.

Dr. Johlin is very caring and very concerned about my quality of life. He most always has the time to visit with me about any problems I have and offers ideas that will help me.

Never was this doctor on time for appointments. It was not unusual for me to have to wait over an hour to see him which was exceptionally frustrating when I had to take off work for the appointment.

Dr. Johlin is more interested in his research than your quality of life. He makes inappropriate comments which are emotionally damaging and have lasting effects on you. The doctor who referred me to Dr. Johlin warned me about his extremely poor bedside manner and his emotional disconnect with the patient. I was sent to him because of my HMO insurance and the lack of healthcare in rural Iowa. I would do anything to rewind time and go to the Mayo Clinic or other hospital.

I have been treated by Dr. Johlin for five years for treatment of pancreatic insuffiency. Dr. Johlin in his diagnosis and treatment has made me well. I was referred to him by my family physician due to the confidence that Dr. Johlin by virtue of his reputation could accurately diagnose and treat my disease. Dr. Johlin is very caring and always takes the time to explain the problem and explain any upcoming procedures.
