Dr. Frederick Robert Lane, MD

My consultation and scheduling for surgery went well. The lady in scheduling was great! May 2, 2019 I had a hemorrhoidectomy at the St Francis surgery center. I saw Dr Lane a few minutes before surgery and he talked to my husband after surgery was over. He sent a prescription for pain medication and instructions for cleaning the area etc. No prescription for antibiotics. I followed directions and did everything I was supposed to do. On Wednesday May 8th my husband called and left a message at the office, no return call. I called the next day and asked to schedule an appointment to be seen. I was sure I had an infection and my pain was excruciating and there was a lot of fluid and blood draining. I did not have a fever because I was taking ibuprofen every 3 hours along with the pain medication as prescribed. Dr Lanes assistant or somebody by the name of Allie told me that their first available appointment for my follow up would be May 28th and that the pain I was feeling was to be… expected and blood and fluids leaking was normal. I asked again to be seen and she said again I just needed to come in May 28th for a follow up and everything was fine. The next night, Friday May 10th around 10:30pm I was in so much pain I couldn’t stand it any longer. My husband rushes me to Shelbyville Major Hospital (where my primary family dr is located). The ER Dr did an exam and determined I did, in fact have a pretty severe infection on the outside and was immediately hooked up to iv antibiotics and sent me for a CT scan to rule out internal infection. He found it bizarre that I was not sent a prescription for antibiotics for the location and type of surgery I had. The CT scan showed no internal infection but it did show my appendix was inflamed. I stayed overnight at the hospital and met with the surgeon who did an emergency appendectomy on Saturday. I do not feel like Dr Lane or the assistant took me very seriously and had I not went to the emergency room when I did, the infection could have gotten completely out of control and ended up being a lot worse. The lady from scheduling called me Monday to schedule my follow up. I let her know that I would be following up through the surgeon that did my appendectomy and would not be back to that office or seeing Dr. Lane again. My advice to anyone having a hemorrhoidectomy is if you feel like something isn’t right, it most likely isn’t, get to a dr or a hospital and get checked out. Don’t brush it off and hope it will get better.
