Dr Frederick Nelson Quarles

I went to Dr. Quarles and he prescribed me a medication that I told him had already been prescribed to me for the same symptoms and it didn't work. But he prescribed that medication to me anyway. He was in too much of a hurry to listen to my concerns or symptoms so because I have not been properly treated and diagnosed I am going to see another dermatologist. It was a waste of time and money being seen by Dr. Quarles so this review is to let others know to find another dermatologist if you are seeking help.

I was stunned by the behavior of this guy. He seemed very sluggish and wasn't interested in hearing what was going with my skin condition. He actually told me he didn't believe me then said he was done with the appointment. He is arrogant, uncaring and unprofessional. Maybe it's just time for this guy to retire because he showed no desire to be helpful or decent toward his patient.

I have never had such a horrible appointment. From the front desk staff to this doctor. Smug and arrogant also ring true with him. He hardly looked at my areas of concern. Out of the blue, without permission and without eye protection he started freezing areas on my face. Three areas to be exact. They blistered up and were terribly sore. I was squinting from the discomfort and he proceeded to make fun of me. Can't think of ever being treated so badly and inappropriately. Do not go to see this man and I would stay away from the whole Virginia Dermo practice in HarbourView.

Should have been a ditch digger instead of a doctor

He is rude,arrogant,smug and lacks any bed side manner.

My skin has showed an unbelievable turn around due to Dr Frederick Quarles. I honestly feel as though I owe him for giving me my life back.

I called in to report my side effects because the warnings on the prescription I am taking said: "Tell your doctor immediately if you develop..."His response was "In all of my years of being a dermatologist, I have never had a patient complain of severe symptoms from a topical medication." and then he went on to say that I was not experiencing these symptoms and if I was, they were not from the medication. All the while, he was speaking condescendingly and scoffing at my remarks.This doctor does not care about his patients. He is careless and should have his license revoked. DO NOT TRUST THIS DOCTOR.

Neither this doctor nor his staff took the time to address my concerns after my appointment. When I called the office, it was impossible to speak to the doctor directly and the staff did not make the effort to relay my messages to the doctor or get back to me with helpful medical advice. I would not recommend this dermatologist to anyone who would like to be treated as a valued patient.

I waited about 25-30 mins to get to the back, waited another 10mins to be seen then only spent 5 mins with him. He was quick with me & I felt that he didn't want to get to know my history of my acne (kept cutting me off) before he gave me a couple of prescripitons to take and to come back in 3 months. One prescription he gave me was a topical prescriptions but I have liver issues so if he gave me a chance to tell him he could of gave me other options. You just know when a DR is rushing you.

My overall experience with this practice is extremely poor. On my three visits to this office I was made to wait anywhere from 45 minutes to over one hour to actually be seen. The staff were rude and unprofessional with each visit, though I had hoped each time that it was just an isolated incident or just one specific employee. I was very wrong. Though the office is supposed to operate Mon-Fri 0830-1700, that will only happen if Dr. Quarles doesn't have "something to do." Yes, that is what I was told when I attempted to make my most recent, and last visit. I was scheduled to be seen during a 1615 appointment on a Friday. I guess those patients who impede on his Friday afternoon's are dispensable. I received a call the day before my appointment to tell me they could no longer see me at that time. I was told he had a "gap" in his schedule that day. Basically, I was being told that the doctor was not going to sit around from 1430 until 1615 for a patient. He wanted to be able to go home… early. I work full time and do not have a very flexible schedule. I had to rearrange a few things and take time off from work to be able to make the originally scheduled 1615 appointment to begin with. I told the staff member that the best I could do was a 1530 appointment but that my schedule does not allow for that kind of flexibility. I was told that would be fine. The next day, hours before my appointment, I get another call saying that my new appointment has been canceled and that I need to reschedule. The reasoning? Dr. Quarles "has something to do." I asked what it was he had to do that he could not see a patient during his set office hours. She responded with "He just has something to do." I find this kind of treatment ridiculous and frustrating and to be honest, I find it hurtful. Between staff that doesn't care, a doctor who doesn't care, and appointments that cant be kept or are late, this office has nothing to offer to any decent human being. I further chased this issue by asking to speak with the office supervisor. Surprise! She was not in on a Friday and the staff refused to contact her on her emergency contact number. So I am left with this conclusion. I will never again attempt to be seen at this office. Ever. I STRONGLY recommend that others do not support this practice or this doctor.
