Dr. Frederick William Tonetti, MD

Back in 2001, my Dad had prostrate cancer, thankfully caught and treated early. However, I live overseas and worried, I called Dr. Tonetti in the US, to ask questions. He returned my call, calling me overseas! Spoke to me for 20 minutes calming my fears. Needless to say all my relatives here were pleasantly shocked as many doctors don't give you that attention even in their presence. I apologized for keeping him on so long with all my questions and he just told me no problem, call again if you have any further questions. I was so relieved knowing my Dad was in such good hands and he did overcome his bout with prostate cancer. Thank you Dr. Tonetti!

If you have urological needs, I'd suggest you go somewhere other than the Center for Urology on Culver Road. Check-in process: They herd the patients in like cattle. The line to check-in is constantly out the door. I had two office visits about three weeks apart, but on the second visit, they had me fill out the same paperwork about family medical history. I asked the receptionist, "Why again so soon?" She said, "You have to do it every time. Something could have changed." I mean, I GUESS so, but inside of three weeks, it's highly improbable. One grown man who was checking in was LOUDLY asked by a receptionist questions about his upcoming circumcision! Doesn't that break some sort of privacy law around health issues? Wait time: The waiting room is so crowded that when the nurse finally calls someone's name, no one can hear her and she has to call it out several times. My appointment was at 9:30am, and they called me a few minutes after 10. I was prepped for a very… painfully unpleasant procedure that I dread every single year, and then left in the exam room for another 10 minutes. Doctor: When Dr. Tonetti finally came in and asked how I was doing, I told him that I hate this procedure. He very pompously announced that I had to have it done because my latest urine test showed "high grade cancer." In shock over this news and his horrible, compassionless demeanor, I sat up and asked, "What are you talking about? What kind of cancer?" He took the lab sheet he was reading (or not reading, I guess) and put it very close to my face as he pointed to something and tapped it with his pen in an, "I told you so" sort of manner. Without my glasses, I couldn't see what he was pointing at, but I had already read all of my latest test results online and knew that I did NOT have cancer. He quickly corrected himself, blaming the way the report was laid out. This is not only a horrible mistake to make, but even if my diagnosis was true, you don't proudly announce to a half-naked, nervous patient that they have a horrible disease that everyone fears right before a barbaric procedure that they are already scared of. I pity his patients who actually ARE sick. Whatever happened to sitting someone down and gently breaking the news--maybe with a significant other along for moral support? Why would this blurted announcement serve as my first knowledge of the illness? Does he not have a phone? The test results were in WEEKS ago! He was very apologetic after that, but the damage was done. In my opinion, maybe if they didn't try to cram so many patients into the place, he'd have more time to READ the test results BEFORE seeing each patient instead of quickly scanning them as he rattles off false information in his know-it-all tone. I have never been too fond of him or this practice, but this was the icing on the cake.

Could not be more satisfied with Dr. Tonetti. Cancer free for more than 20 years after radical prostatectomy speaks volumes.
