Dr. Gabrielle S Schaefer, MD

Although she has a lovely disposition and her office staff was great, we had to fire her. She did some thorough blood work (which we appreciate) and came back with a result that she said could affect this child and possible future generations. With a sweet smile, said she could "take care of it." Sounds like a good start - something fixable! Unfortunately, she was talking about termination. She was pretty adamant about extensive testing and offering several abortions as the solution.. This was our first pregnancy so being brokenhearted to hear this, we asked for reasons, alternatives, information, or ANY OTHER REASONS we would want to do all these tests other than to terminate (i.e. Do we need a specialist in the delivery room? Will this baby need special treatment or resources at or after delivery?). As she stopped to think for a second (and we were hoping she'd join the "let's find a way to get this baby here safe" team) & she simply said, "No." We fired her on… the spot, found another doctor who gladly delivered us a happy, healthy, high scoring APGAR tested baby! For our next pregnancy (at a different health network), we were told that we aren't considered to be in any "situation" for that blood test result???!!! As a new parent, hearing that your first pregnancy should be terminated, having to try to convince your DOCTOR to help you deliver your child and then the next pregnancy, the medical professionals say there is no "situation" was shocking, disheartening and eye opening. This was a matter of life and death for this child and very terrifying for new parents to hear. Instead of our sad story of how this doctor "fixed" our "situation" by termination, we thank God for the blessing of the new doctors & our wonderful, healthy and happy child (children). We hope she has had a change in perspective since this and thankful we were able to find someone to deliver our sweet baby in the meantime.

She's is extremely nice , gentle, and explains her concerns thoroughly. Before surgery she made sure understood each thing that was expected to happen before signing papers. I am always greeted and treated with great respect from their staff. I enjoy being a patient here.

As a GYN, she was great! I even referred my friends to her. We wanted to get pregnant and she was helpful in giving us a time frame to work with before testing and possible intervention. When we got pregnant, she went above and beyond to get blood work done and said the office would call if everything was okay and they did call to say - everything looked great! We came in, elated, we were pregnant and that's when the whole trajectory changed into an absolute nightmare. At our first official pregnancy visit, she said our blood work was NOT okay. We said she must have the wrong family as we already got a call to say we were all good. She went on to explain the results & then she offered for us to terminate our pregnancy twice at the first visit!?! We said we weren't choosing that path regardless of the situation so let's move forward. On the second visit, she offered test after test & several more abortions and so we went home totally distraught, realized her goal was not for our… child to enter the world, and we fired her and found a WONDERFUL doctor who listens & delivered our baby totally healthy and doing beautifully. The patient should never be pressured to make such a decision by a doctor, especially since it has been expressed specifically. Had we taken her advice, it would have been a tragic mistake. As a GYN, no problems. As an OB, we found another doctor.

Pathetic response, no matter what she need to go away from Room ASAP. No suggestions, nothing. she dont even remeber you case details.. She asks like a unknown patient wvwn you visited her last month.

My most recent wellness appointment lasted 5 minutes. I waited 20 minutes. When I asked my doctor for information on insurance, she told me to ask the front desk secretary. When I asked the secretary, she gave me inaccurate information.

Since Dr. Schaeffer has been with Valley - now Stanford - the customer service from her staff is terrible. You can never talk to her directly, you always have to explain yourself to the receptionist. Then the story is never told correctly so the answer you get isn't always helpful. In addition, you have to be the one to follow up on the calls. Too bad. She use to be a great doctor, great patient oriented. There are other issues too. I guess its just a business.

I've been to her office about three times now and I've been very disappointed in the follow up. One time she said she wouldn't call unless my results required immediate treatment, and then called to tell me I was okay (a relief once I heard the news, but I was upset with the inconsistency of what she told me she was going to do and what she actually did). Then, she let my birth control prescription run out without any notice. Not to mention she made asking for STI panel tests extremely awkward unnecessarily.

Dr. Schaefer's bedside manner was appauling. I cried after my appointment when I got in my car. I asked her to be gentle and slowly explain what she was doing. Instead she was forceful, impatient, and spoke so fast I could not understand her or process what she was saying. There was no congratulations or nice to meet up. No pleasantries at all. Stay away!

Poorly run office.Appointments run very late.Dr. Schaefer's mannerisms are cold.Did not inform me of what she was during during an exam, which was painful. I truly don't think she has any compassion for her patients.If you are having a baby, please find another doctor; you deserve to be treated with respect and you won't be at this office.

This OB/GYN office has a lot to be desired. The doctor and staff were very rude and snippy towards me. The wait to be seen by the doctor was miserably long. She then told me I had to schedule another appointment so she could finish up what was supposed to be done during the first appointment. Bedside manner was appalling. I would absolutely not recommend this doctor to any woman who is expecting a child.
