Dr. Gaetano Peter Monteleone JR., MD

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I saw Dr. Monteleone three times. The first he was understanding and listened- the second and third time was full of condescension, dismissiveness, and inattentive to my concerns. I saw him after suffering my third ankle avulsion fracture. The second and third visits I expressed concern over pain and continued swelling. The third visit he said I would need to wean off PT after he said I would need PT for a year during the first. He also ordered x-rays to ease my concerns AFTER my appointment which is not protocol- any good doctor would order before and then review. Got a second opinion and ended up needing surgery because I had one tendon left in my ankle and no ligaments. I injured my ankle June 2025 and will be recovering more than a year later.

This doctor told me to put my 95 year old father in a nursing home! He said we should have called hospice “like yesterday”. He said my husband and I could care for him. He said “this is the beginning of the end “ for my dad. My husband and I cried for two hours! He did not encourage us and was not helpful at all! Well two months later, guess what doctor my dad is improving! We are taking care of him 24/7 and doing a great job, not that you’ve called to check on him! And I will NEVER put my dad in a nursing home! Oh, by the way, we’ve gotten a new family doctor that cares! Don’t waste your time with this doctor! He is rude and unhelpful!

Very unprofessional and condescending. I was very uncomfortable during our appointment at WVU Medicine. Geatano Monteleone should not be a doctor and it is scary that someone like this is treating patients as a family doctor. After prying into my personal life and completely ignoring all of my responses, he found out I didn't want anxiety or pain medications and he was quick to dismiss me and have his staff preform several unnecessary and costly test. Terrible ability to assess or discuss any issues or concerns I had. He did not discuss charges or insurance with me. None of my problems were even considered and writing this review makes me uncomfortable just thinking of how insanely awkward the doctor made me feel. Please stay away from this person by any means necessary. I was informed this behavior is repeated not only with patients, but staff as well.

I went to see this dr as my other PCP had left. He took away my anxiety meds and sleeping meds. I have a brain injury due to a car wreck and have been dealing with these issues for 6 yrs and have finally got my medications to where I was able to sleep and he refuses to refill. He saw me for 10 min and guess he thinks he knows me. If you have any issues please reconsider seeing him. I have heard other complaints on him as well.

I would recommend Dr. Monteleone to anyone. I love that he wants to find the root of the problem and not just pass out pills.

Worst doctor I have ever seen. Refused to give the best, most beneficial treatment. Compared his knee pain to my debilitating shoulder pain. I woul never recommend him to anyone ever.

This doctor is great! He is not quick with pain pills. He tried to get at the root of my problem. He cares and got to the diagnosis when everyone else wanted to give pills!

Office manner was terrible. Yelled and was very unprofessional towards patient. Will never go back to him or anyone associated with him as his resident.
