Gail Elaine Bernstein

Gail has a collaborative and holistic approach to mental health care. She partners with each patient to identify treatment goals, provides education on appropriate options, addresses any concerns, and explores non-pharmacological strategies to optimize well-being. When prescribing medication, her philosophy is “start low, go slow," prioritizing the lowest effective dose with the fewest possible side effects. Gail was drawn to the field of mental health for two key reasons. While working in family medicine, she observed a significant need for mental health support among patients seeking care for physical health concerns. Frustrated by the lack of resources and her own limited training at the time, she felt compelled to pursue a career in psychiatry. Her passion was further inspired by her husband, who also works in the field and shares her deep commitment to helping others and expanding knowledge around mental health treatment.
