Dr. Gail Andrea Cohan, MD

She is a full time professor of medicine at SUNY Stony Brook so although there is typically a 3-4 month wait to get an appointment with her, it's understandable. Being an educator, she is always on top of the most current research on diagnoses and treatments. She is not quick to prescribe a medication just to appease one's concerns. Instead, she discusses your concerns with you and collaborates with you on a plan of care. You leave feeling like you truly have a partner in your health. She has an excellent bedside manner. She is quite holistic in her approach therefore she includes alternative medicines in her plan of care. She is unlike many medical doctors in that she doesn't just treat the disease, she treats the WHOLE patient, both body AND mind. There are very few doctors like her out there.

Dr Cohan is an excellent physician who truly cares for her patients. She takes as much time as needed at each appointment. She listens well and takes the patient's concerns seriously. Can't ask for a better doctor! My only complaint would be that she is so popular it's hard to get an appointment at times.
