Dr. Garland Penn Kirkpatrick, MD

Dr. Kirkpatrick was my pediatrician in the 1960’s in Chicago. He brought me back from the brink of death when I was about 14 years old from an intestinal infection, in the South Chicago hospital. Then two years later, he performed abdominal surgery in 1969 at the Illinois Central Hospital. I remember him to be a kind, gentle doctor who rightfully earned my trust. Through the years I’ve had various surgeries and each time I felt confident and not afraid. This was a direct result of Dr. Kirkpatrick’s handling of a skinny little Black girl in the 1960’s. I am now a 68 year old retired occupational therapist. And during this Black History Month, I just want to say thank you Dr. Garland Kirkpatrick.
