Dr. Garth Christenson

Dr. Garth Christenson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, prior to receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree, cum laude, from the Illinois College of Optometry. He then completed a Residency in Children’s Vision at the Southern California College of Optometry and remained at the college for five years, teaching and performing research. In 1988, Dr. Christenson earned his Master of Science in Education from California State University at Fullerton. He earned several awards and honors, including the Strawn Leadership Award, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, Outstanding Young Men in America, Who’s Who is California, and Who’s Who in Health Care. He is also very active in the community as a member of Hudson Rotary, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Hudson High School Strive Mentorship Program, and Junior Achievement. Dr. Christenson is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and is a member of the American …Optometric Association, Wisconsin Optometric Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development and has special status as a Binocular Vision Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry. He has lectured on topics of vision care and published over 20 articles in professional journals. He is co-author of a textbook on dyslexia and was awarded the “best article of the year” by Optometry and Vision Development in 2005. Because of Dr. Christenson’s experience in children’s vision and learning, he has served as a consultant to the Minneapolis New Visions Charter School. In recent years, Dr. Christenson has gained additional experience in the area of vision care for traumatic brain injury/concussion. He is a member of the NORA (Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association). Dr. Christenson’s background and experiences allow him to emphasize patient education. As a result of this willingness to explain conditions to his patients, he has become known as “the communicating doctor.”
