Dr Gary Chang-Hsiao Chen

I became very sick with my stomach last week , I called and tried to make an appointment with Dr. Chen , he has been my gastro. for about two years . They said I could not see him until next month .I told the office how I felt and they said there was noting they could do ! My wife called back and ask if I could see another doctor and they said because I was established with Dr. Chen they could not make an appointment with another doctor, I hate to complain about the doctor as I did like him when dealing with him having my colonoscopy . I had to go the the ER and have a cat scan they ask me to fallow up with guess who , yup Dr. Chen I ended up going to my GP he is now treating me for an infection and I am still going for tests. Dr. Chen's office dose not care at all about their patients. I told them I was in a lot of pain they could care less,! It's sad that they just don't care I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO HIS OFFICE AGAIN !

From my experience Dr. Chen is a competent and polite MD. The problem lies with the front office, a Ms X in particular, the scheduler. I was instructed to get an imaging test specifically at Quest Labs. Quest has ZERO telephone support. After many attempts to get the test I asked Ms.X for help getting the appointment. She said she could not do that. I asked her to let me speak with her supervisor. Shortly thereafter I got a letter from Chen's office that I was no longer their patient, due to a lack of communication. After I moved over to another Gastrointestinal MD, I learned that Quest is a blood lab, that they don't do any imaging whatsoever! I would have to conclude that Ms. X knew she screwed up, and the easiest way to cover her tracks was to get rid of me as a patient before I could communicate these facts with him in my next office visit. By the way, for Ms X English was a 2nd language, and I had to frequently ask her to repeat words. Dr. Chen should have kept her in the back… office and not on phone-answering duty.

Stay Away! I had to reschedule my colonoscopy a few times due to work and personal reasons and they ended up telling me that they refuse to have me as a patient and I could not make another appointment. I have never heard of this before. Regardless they were very vague when it came to letting you know the cost of the procedure as well. I would recommend seeing another doctor.

I was referred to Dr Chen because of abdominal pain and unexplained rapid weight loss (30lbs in 4 months with no change in diet and a decrease in exercise). We agree a colonoscopy is the best route to figure out what's going on. My prescriptions were never sent so I had to scramble the morning that I was supposed to start the cleanse because nobody in his office was capable of hitting send and they didn't have clinical hours on a Friday. After two and a half hours I was able to finally get someone from his office to send it through. I follow the steps on my sheet and show up 15min early for my appointment. I show up and am about to lose my bowels. The girl at the front desk of the surgery center begins to demand I wait and that I need to do a pregnancy test. 12 hours of cleansing and I'm expected to fill a cup of urine, nobody said anything about that and I went to the bathroom before we left the house. I had to threaten to release my bowels in the waiting room before she'd let me use… the facilities. Then I wait an hour. I ask the girl at front and she says my appointment wasn't for another HOUR and they just request you show up an hour early. So I'm bloated, cramping, monsooning out my rectum and I'm expected to sit FOR NO REASON for an hour in the most uncomfortable waiting room chairs because they like it. Never again. This has been the most uncomfortable and humiliating experience of my life. Thank you Dr. Chen for this incredibly humbling experience.

Asks questions with presence and Follows up. Shows genuine concern with solutions.

Dr. Chen was knowledgeable gave eye contact and addressed concerns. Exam with explanations. In addition, the office was very well organized and professional. What a great experience!!

Had 2 procedures, biopsy, bloodwork done lots of $ for them --asked for results had to call my insurance to get records. They forgot to contact me for follow up appt so made one for following month on own Was told I had to take meds for 2 weeks before & another test at appt. Never called in meds so asked why. as appt was close. Was told everything was cancelled DR didn't follow up. I asked for resolution to problem called my insurance again for advice Staff said I was doing illegal activities on my phone so threatened to call police on me if I didn't leave right away and of course am discharged from services (which I wasn't getting anyway. So I an just as sick as the day I first stepped foot in their office minus hundreds of dollars for an untreated diagnosis. There was nothing nice about any of them or their behaviors. I am a 60 yr old disabled person who keeps to themselves never bothers anyone or ever in trouble with the law so to threaten me with jail is crazy.

I had the privilege of being introduced to Dr Gary Chen for my abdominal problems. I was certainly scared about the possibilities of having something serious. Dr Chen has amazing bedside manner, and most importantly took his time to explain everything very thoroughly to me, appeasing my initial fears. I went on to have an EGD and colonoscopy procedures performed by Dr Chen. The entire experience was very pleasant. Dr Chen is professional, knowledgeable, and VERY patient. Will definitely recommend him to any of my family members.

Dr. Chen is very thorough and detailed. He wants to find out what is going on with your body as much as you do. He helped me with a diagnosis that I have been looking for for 25 yrs.

I saw a couple of one star reviews on the internet for Dr. Chen and just had to add our own review here. I'm not sure what others have experienced but he has treated my mom for gastro problems and he has been very knowledgeable, caring and trustworthy. He spent a ton of time with my mom explaining (in both languages as he's bilingual) about her condition, the causes, the effects. The procedure was done successfully without any issues, the results being very good.
