Dr. Gary Jay Friedland

Gary Friedland is the worst dentist I ever been to. I went in pain free and he said I had a cavity. He then filled the cavity and a few days later I was in the worst pain ever. I go back in and he said I need a root canal. He never communicated that the cavity might be a root canal or anything. Then after I got the root canal I had to go back because I had a pounding headache because he didn’t shave it down enough. Not only is he bad at his job or purposely caused this root canal, he is also a racist. This was during the pandemic and he said some awful things about Asians. The front staff is not friendly at all either. After when I first got the cavities done I was walking out and she said “you know this is not free.” I didn’t know if you pay there or they bill you later. She didn’t have to say it like that. I highly don’t recommend.

I think another reviewer mentioned he's a talker and that's 100% true. I didn't mind though. I had an awful pain in a molar that was very mild for a few months and then all the sudden became unbearable. I have a Dental Save plan, not insurance. They got me an appointment the same day that required me to miss no work - in fact, it was a 7:30pm appt that one of the ladies had to ask him to do, so I thought it was very nice that they stayed late. And if they didn't stay late, being open til that time is just as valuable for someone who works during the day. I was seen about 5 mins after finishing paperwork. He poked around at my other teeth and took an x-ray; meanwhile I'm laying there thinking is he going to try to push other work on me and/or do things like taking unnecessary x-rays and it's going to end up costing me a ton of money by the time it's over - the kind of money that if I had it, I would obviously have dental insurance! When he went in for another 2 x-rays I just… came out and asked about the cost. They assured me it wasn't expensive so I let it go and decided I would address it again later if I had to, the most important thing is stopping the pain. I ended up getting the tooth pulled out (other option was a root canal). The DA held my hand the whole time, and I'm glad she did bc it was quite horrible and loud - worse than getting my impacted wisdom teeth removed last year, and I opted out of anesthesia then. After it was finally done he suggested what he thought I needed for other teeth but in no way tried to push me into it or get me to do it now, or make me feel guilty about it. Just suggested I come back at another time and have that work done to save my teeth later. I do believe I'll take him up on it too, because when I got to the counter to pay I was so amazed at how inexpensive it was I couldn't believe it. Dental Save took some percent (50% I think, not sure) off, but I would not have thought paying full price was unfair - that's how inexpensive it was. Office visit, exam, 3 x-rays and extraction, plus whatever little extras dr's always like to add on - the novocaine probably has a charge as well, and I paid a pittance. I was extremely happy when I left. I often put off any sort of medical treatment until the last minute to avoid the ever-dreaded "You smoke, don't you?" and the admonishments and guilt trips that come after. It's worth mentioning then that Dr. Friedland didn't ask me that at all, I actually pointed it out myself when the DA complimented my teeth. So, talk about a total turnabout. I won't be visiting another dentist until he is no longer available.
