Dr. Gary Gerstein, MD

thirty three years ago I was diagnosed with acute myloid leukemia. I received treatment at Morristown Memorial hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Gary Gerstein was the doctor who diagnosed my case and was in charge of my treatment. I received two rounds of chemotherapy. At the end of my initial induction chemo I was already in remission. Protocol was at that time, that I should have 4 more rounds of chemo. I had one. I did so poorly (hemorrhage, septisemia, etc. that I decided with the doctors to not have any more chemo. Tomorrow, I will be 80 years old . I have never been out of remission. Since then, I have buried two husbands and am now a widow for the second time. I had told the doctors I was going to leave it in the hands of God. I am grateful to Gary Gerstein for my treatment and to God that I have survived. When I was so sick they looked around for a survivor of aml to encourage me. They could only find one who had lasted 6 years at the time. I moved and lost touch with… her. I am wondering if she made it as long as I have. I am also wondering if there are others who are as blessed as I was or if I might be the longest survivor among his patients with my condition. . Naturally, I have an attitude of gratitude and fond memories of Dr. Gerstein and wish him well and wish to thank him. Hope he reads his comments. He may not even remember me. I owe my life to this amazing man. It has been 18 years since he cured me from Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He is the best of all worlds: compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, and he knows his stuff! I am only still living because of him and his team! His office staff is friendly and courteous. It is one office that truly cares about you when you walk in. A lovely experience and a terrific team to have on your side when you are fighting to win against cancer. I would send my family and friends to him and if I ever moved away and needed an oncologist, I would come back to him.
