I went to Doctor Gary Gonya with a complaint about pain in my neck from a previous injury. I required surgery. From the very first time I met Doctor Gonya, he was polite, and he explained everything clearly and concisely. I was afraid of the procedure, but Dr. Gonya assured me that he had performed hundreds of cervical spine procedures. He explained everything step by step and would always ask me if I had any questions or concerns. Most importantly, he kept eye contact and made me feel comfortable enough to really trust him. Words cannot even describe how amazing he is. Dr. Gonya is such a special person. You can tell in the way he pays attention and is genuinely concerned with whatever it is that you are feeling insecure about. Dr. Gonya will explain it thoroughly until you understand it. He will not pressure you to do something you don’t feel comfortable with. Step by step and month by month till the day of the surgery, Dr. Gonya made me feel secure with my decision. You will not… only find a doctor that is experienced, but that also gets you as a patient and as a human being. He takes his time and gives you undivided attention. He did a stupendous job with my surgery, and I healed quickly. The incision is perfectly blended with the natural lines on my skin and I was able to move around in a short time. After Surgery, Dr. Gonya talked to my loved ones and informed them about my condition and when it was good for them to see me. He checks up on you and when he is not readily available, he’ll still have another doctor see you until he is able to. Unbelievable... I never met a Doctor who is quite as unique and responsible as Doctor Gary A. Gonya is. May God protect him and keep him in his graces always. ??

Second time that I've seen him in a two year period. First time that I came in with a lower back problem; he actually thought the pain was caused by the proximal hamstring. Sent me to a Sports Medicine Orthopedic & sure enough it was the torn tendon that was pulling on my back. After a year and a half later I was back with lower back pain & thought I would need surgery ( had spinal fusion 5 years ago) to fuse the S1. He allayed my fear & thought I should just wait it out for two weeks with Advil & to continue activities. Didn't push any surgery & had a lengthy office visit where he explained why I might be having these symptoms. Great to talk to.

He only wants surgery done. ($$$$$). Be careful. Don't be swayed.

This man talked me into a very invasive c-spine surgery that did nothing to alleviate my pain. 2 years later I have more symptoms and complications from this surgery. Shortly after doing my surgery, he left the practice and never returned my phone calls when I started having problems 2 months post op. He did return one call and told me to "stretch". I foolishly believed him when he told me the only thing that would fix my problem was surgery. I should have gotten a second opinion but I trusted the orthopedic surgeon that he was affilated with to have a spine surgeon I could trust. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. I am going to live with this nightmare for the rest of my life.

Prior to surgery the doctor was welcoming and seemed very eager to relieve the pain I was in, checked MRI's and promptly booked an infusion spine surgery for my cervical spine C5,C6 to be infused. 5 months after surgery I am in a lot of pain so I went back to him, he sent me away to pain management, he refused to deal with me. at this point I am in pain management, months later this is not working either and I went to see him again and he said he does not understand why I'm in pain and does not believe me. He sent me to take weighted x-rays that have aggravated my pain. I contacted him and he cancelled the appointment that I previously made to see him. I am in a great amount of pain and he dismissed me now to pain management, I should of never let him perform the surgery on me because from the first day I saw him he assured me that the surgery would give me at least an 80% improvement.

i had back surgury in dec of 08 Dr Gonya was there when i needed him he is a very good Dr. Do not let him being so young fool you he knows what he is doing and walks you thru your surgury. 3 stars

Very Knowledgeable, Ive been a patient with Orlin & Cohen for a couple of years.Dr.Gonya moved to a new practice which I was so happy to stumble across since I find him one if not the best Dr. Ive seen when it comes to treating and communicating.(hes now in Massapequa)
