excellent doctor and knows what he is doing. Hard to see such doctors nowdays

After having a horrible experience with another doctor, I was referred (for the 4th time) to Dr. Havens. The office staff was very courteous and took time to explain procedures with me over the phone. I was able to get my appointment bumped to an earlier time due to cancellations. The office staff was friendly and treated me and my condition with dignity, provided me with a wheelchair and wheeled me down to the entrance of the building, calming me fears along the way. Dr. Havens introduced himself, went through my films quickly and efficiently, immediately pinpointed the tear in my meniscus, showed it to me, explained it to me and calmed my fears by telling me stories of how he performed 200 of the surgeries when he first started out in the army on 18-20 year olds who tore their menisci during boot camp trainings. He performed the usual knee bending and flexibility tests (A doctor actually laying hands on you! Do they still do that? Wow!) I winced as my knee popped out, and it merely… confirmed his diagnosis. I asked about how the surgery was to be performed, he told me that the meniscus would be shaved down and smoothed out and shaped to be more "normal". The surgery was set up at 3 weeks from the date at the earliest, he prescribed meds according to my symptoms and a walker to help me get around in the meantime. The office staff filled me in on the surgery and pre-op process and informed me about the best way to get it done. These ladies are mature and caring and know how to treat a human being. Thank god for them!
