Dr. Gary Hirshfield, MD

There's not a single nice word that can be used to describe Dr. Gary Hirshfield. He has zero respect for patients, is insulting and demeaning, and has a terrible anger management problem to boot. I was scheduled for what was promised to be a "new patient" time allotment of 30 minutes. However, I was unaware of the fact that Hirshfield runs a mill practice of overbooking patients and not respecting appointment times. I literally waited over two hours(!) before he came into the exam room, offering absolutely no apology, and immediately becoming argumentative! As I tried to explain my symptoms, eye problems and history, he kept cutting me off with nasty comments like, "cut to the chase", "get to the point" and "I don't need to hear you talking." I was spoken to as if a piece of trash. He said it was too late to do a dilation because the office was about to close, which certainly was not my fault. Even amid the difficulty finding doctors willing to take… Obamacare patients, no patient deserves to be so abused. When I requested an apology, and pointed out to Hirshfield that being a doctor did not give him the right to insult and berate patients, he became enraged and threw a tantrum! There was absolutely no concern for my eye problem or for me as a human being. This man blatantly violates the NYS Patients Bill of Rights, and should not hold a medical license. If you want quality eye care and a caring doctor, this is not the individual to see.

Worse Experience Ever I visited this doctor because of Northwell Health. This was my worse experience I ever had in my life and I wish I never took my 15-year-old child to Gary Hirshfield. He yelled at my child because he perceived him to have an attitude. He was yelling at my son that he has an attitude and that he can leave right now, he will get nowhere in life, no one will want to treat him, and he doesn’t have to come back and he kept on going and going on and on. I was sitting there, and I yelled at my son to verbally answer because I was in shock. This doctor was nasty, above his head and I don’t know who he think he is. He traumatized my child and his behavior is unacceptable and from reading the reviews, he has done this in the past. Maybe he should be sued at his point!!! He took out his anger on my child because I asked his front desk why did they wait for us to arrive to call the insurance company when they had all my information from Northwell system and I verified with… them prior to the appointment that all the information is good to go.

Had appointment today. When I arrived, told it was 8 days short of three months since my last visit and I would have to reschedule or pay the Dr out-of-pocket. This is only the last of a number of negative incidents over the years. Dr H does not want to know about problems. Last year he actually yelled at me when I brought up a waiting room problem. Enough for me!

I love him and the staff they are the best

Dr. H has been my doctor for 10 years. He and his staff has always been wonderful to deal with. My friend had LASIK done and I finally have the time to get my LASIK done. I can't wait to never wear glasses or contacts again!

I had an excellent experience and outcome with Botox injections from Dr. Hirshfield. I received the injections from other physicians but Dr. Hirshfield was the most gentle and careful and attentive. I will definitely use him again!

I saw Dr. Hirshfield for lasik and he explained that my corneas were too thin and that he could do epi lasek or PRK. He spent a lot of time evaluating me personally and did most of the measurements himself. He warned me that it may hurt for a few days. Well it hardly hurt at all, my vision was acceptable in the first few days and now at one month my vision is 20/20 in both eyes. I am so happy I had the surgery with Dr. Hirshfield. Also, the staff was wonderful and the office was very new and clean. Highly recommended.

This doctor was very thorough and nice- he explained everything to me and answered all my questions- I was very happy- best eye doctor ever

Visited Dr. Hirschfield recently. Staff was extremely nice, but once doctor came into room, I feld extremely rushed. Have your questions ready and take notes. Doctor talked REALLY fast. After visit, I had several questions that I had no time to even think about to ask. Actually a few were ones that I should not have had to ask. Like -- is it okay to wear my contacts while my eye condition heals? Yes, visit felt extremely impersonal.
