Dr. Gary Leslie Stanton, MD

Doesn't listen to me in office visits. Office is impossible to reach. Has mixed up my patient file with another's and reported inaccurate dates of office visits and my return to work date to my disability insurance case manager. Ignores symptoms that he doesn't think fit the diagnosis he's pursuing, even if severe. Office has been locked and empty when I've come to appointments, and when they are there I've had an hour + wait every time so far. I've had my life derailed waiting for this doctor to begin treating me for the condition he's diagnosed me with after a year and a half of being under his care with no clear direction. Doesn't remember what medications he's prescribed me and can't be bothered to look it up when I call for refills. Requires me to see him in the office every time I have a question, no matter how small. Bills me for clinical evaluations before he's done them. Borderline malpractice, but covers his butt well enough to avoid suits.

Seeing Dr Stanton for sleep apnea. Through his incites the causes of additional challenges I've been working on have become clearer and are being actively researched, in some cases by other Doctors. Dr Stanton is one of the gifted among us. His intellect moves him at a rate many find unnerving. Hang on and slow him down, if need be, if you're like me he will please you. (Work on his sense of humor. It's not easy to awaken but worth the effort.)

Orders out-dated, long painful tests that no neurologist uses today. They don't do them so they refer out to Lahey. I saw another neurologist who cant understand why Stanton orders these ridiculous obsolete tests when an MRI would be way easier and less time-consuming and painful. Waiting for leeches next.

I needed a SPINE eval so I called and explained this to his admin. Waited forever for an appointment, Explained to HIM what I needed (lumbar SPINE eval). Came away with three expensive tests for my BRAIN (all normal). When I asked about the spine eval, he blew me off. He couldn't (be bothered?) to access nerve conduction tests he did on me several years ago, but the brain scan tech kindly printed them for me. He's a total jerk.

Months to get an appointment

Doctor Staton is very good however his receptionist should retire. I had an emergency once that the ER couldn't handle, my son called his office and his receptionist put him on hold. My son walked over to his office to discover that she had forgotten that he was on hold.

Dr. Stanton is very knowledgeable about MS and MS treatments. He is a good listener and I feel very comfortable with him.

Although charming and innocent, Gary is just another American MD. He thinks outside of the box, but explains very little to his patients. He is impressive with his knowledge of acupuncture, but works within a system that spends very little time with patients. Although trained more than any doctor at Emerson, I would rate him less for protecting the rich white men at MGH. He knows so much, he hardly knows what to do with it. He likes the quacking duck theory of medicine, but won't follow through with the treatment protocols he knows will work. He's a watch and wait kind of guy, as are most Emerson doctors. Too bad there is no disease that benefits from waiting years to diagnose and treat. Lets hope he's out in charge ahead of some of Emerson's other beauties. You can do worse. He was nice to my face, though and will treat patients with respect. that goes a long way in the Emerson world. Just don't expect a great deal of respect behind your back. office staff is over worked… but friendlier than all the Emmerson doctors' staff assistants combined. He could be a good man in a corrupt environment. In all fairness, he accepts most insurance and medicaid and treats the poorest/sickest and least reimbursable crowd. You could do better.

He is an excellent doctor who seems to specialize in many aspect of neurology, pain management, acupuncture, and more. Wouldn't want anyone else.
