My Story
A dental school in my hometown of Milwaukee certainly influenced me to choose dentistry as a career, but I may never have ended up following that path if it weren’t for the influence of a good friend of mine, Brian Bergman. Brian was in his first year of dental school at Marquette University when he invited me for a tour of the school. Brian was great at explaining the details of the various dental procedures and at handling my continuous string of questions. That visit opened my eyes to what this career field could offer me and one year later, I entered my first year of dental school.
Throughout my time at Marquette, I assumed that I would do …as most dental graduates do and associate with an established dentist and eventually open my own practice. Fate had something else in store for me. During the last few weeks of dental school, an Air Force recruiter approached me and offered me an assignment to Japan. It was a three-year commitment. The opportunity to actually live and travel in the Far East was too good to turn down. Who would have guessed that a three-year commitment would turn into a 22-year career that included assignments in South Korea, Sicily, England and Japan?
Looking back, I now realize how fortunate I was to have lived in many parts of the United States, as well as the world. It has given me a better perspective and appreciation of ethnic cultures, geography and world history, which in turn has improved my ability to relate to people, no matter their origins or beliefs. In addition, military service instilled a solid dedication to God, country and family. The military also introduced me to my wife, Nancy, who was also serving in the Air Force and assigned to the Pentagon when I was the dentist there in the late '90s. We now have two beautiful children, Catalina and Colin, who keep me focused on the important things in life. My dedication to ethical, conservative, and cosmetic dentistry is well-rooted and my hopes are that I can continue to provide this service to all my patients at Paradise Dental.
I would enjoy the privilege of being your dentist. We are accepting new patients. And, by the way, so is Dr. Brian Bergman, in case you know anyone in Wisconsin.
