Dr. George Feinbaum, MD

Dr. Feinbaum refused to treat me because he wasn't my primary care doctor. I explained that I was looking for a new doctor because my doctor had moved. He kept insisting that I should see my primary doctor and was not listening when I tried to explain the situation. I continued to try and explain and he replied, "She's in the neighborhood. Somewhere." Frustrated, I left his exam room without Dr. Feinbaum asking what was wrong with me.

I had several visits with, and certainly experienced the care of, George Feinbaum, M.D. He had also seen my wife and children. We know a few of his other patients, too. I will share the plain truth. We initially became familiar with Dr. Feinbaum in the early 1980's, when he was a highly popular internist at a "Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York" medical center, located on Nostrand Avenue. He consistently accepted countless patients, and is capable of doing so, for the simple reason that he treats his patients like parts on an assembly line. I had been under his care longer than my other relatives. Obtaining an appointment was always very easy, but each of us had similar experiences. When we arrived for appointments, we had to contend with his incredibly nasty receptionists, whom he used as a sort of barrier from his overload of waiting patients. On each office visit, the waiting time was so lengthy that it exhausted the patience of his abundance of waiting patients. … His receptionists waste time gabbing constantly on the office's phone with their friends and, when you need to ask a question, they bark orders at you to keep quiet and remain seated. When we finally got to see Dr. Feinbaum, his examinations were performed rapidly. If you had wished to confer with him afterwards, he usually agreed to, but behaved in a distant manner. He has a practice of authorizing huge amounts of referrals and tests, but his treatments and diagnosis is often off the mark; though, he can be surprisingly accurate on rather obvious medical issues. He ordinarily tells you to wait again outside, after his examinations, for another approximate half an hour, dealing with more rudeness of his receptionists, and then they hand you a slip of paper merely indicating an O.T.C. treatment and/or a stack of mostly unhelpful referrals. I, basically, was caused more serious complications from any of his chosen prescription meds than I felt prior to my visit. Noteworthy is that when I was in an emergency room, instead of advising that I had a minor accident, he and his receptionists scared and worried my family with totally false information that I had died from a major heart attack. Upon diagnosing a young adult family member with severe hypertension, he insistently advised they were not old enough to receive any treatment, with which every following physician strongly disagreed. I actually could go on and on to relay further experiences. However, I will just state the facts in that one obvious problem with his care is he takes on far more patients than any one doctor would be capable of properly managing and he's much better than some, as many family doctors are even worse. Of course, there are some who provide better overall care.

My experience with Dr. Feinbaum was truly awful. I have HealthFirst insurance, and needed some prescriptions for OTC medication for my allergies, menstrual cramps, and general ibuprofen in order to refill my home supply and take advantage of the benefits of my health insurance. I explain this to him, and he essentially refuses to prescribe me Midol and Advil, because he claims they do the same thing. As a woman, I KNOW that they do not do the same thing. Midol also has ingredients that counteract bloating and fatigue, which Advil does not. So he completely dismissed my needs as a patient, and as a woman. While this is not fine, I was determined to try and make the rest of the appointment as un-awkward as possible. So he goes to check my heartbeat, and asks me to lift up my shirt. I give him ample space to place his stethoscope under my sweater, and he says I still have to lift up my entire shirt. I refuse, because I have had plenty of examinations that did not require me to… expose myself for the sake of "listening to my heartbeat". At which point he refused to finish our appointment. Perhaps if you are an older male patient, you will not have the same experience I did. But be forewarned, he is certainly past his prime and does not consider fully the needs of his patients and has LOTS to learn about bedside manner. It's unfortunate he is so advanced in age, because I doubt he will get the opportunity to learn proper and professional medical etiquette. Conclusion: Worst Doctor I Have Ever Encountered.

A great doctor would recommend to friends

I was having issues with my thyroid and was not happy with my endo doctor. A friend recc. Dr. Feinbaum and I was very happy I went. He was very knowledgable and answered all of my questions. I felt confident in his direction to treat my issues and am very happy I went to him. My mother now uses him and is very happy too. The office is very busy, but the staff is effecient with returning calls and handling requests.

Although I think people should get refhumans in person and not online, I was very errals from happy with my visit with doctor Feinbaum. He was very thorough.
