Dr. George F. Kirkland, III has been practicing dentistry in Durham for over 30 years. He is a 1974 graduate of UNC with a BS in Chemistry, and a 1978 graduate of the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Kirkland is active in his profession as a member of the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Society, and he is Past-President of the Durham-Orange County Dental Society. He was recently inducted into the International College of Dentists, an invitation-only organization which recognizes dentists who have made significant contributions to the profession, the community and their families. Dr. Kirkland also volunteers with the NC Missions of Mercy, a philanthropic group that provides free dental services in poverty-stricken areas of our state.
Dr. Kirkland ,is a Durham native and is the son of the late Dr. George Kirkland, Jr. who was the first board-certified Periodontist in North Carolina and served as President of the NC Dental Society. The …lecture hall at the new Dental Sciences Building at the UNC Dental School was recently named in his honor. Dr. Kirkland resides in Durham with his wife, Leslie. Their three children are graduates of Duke and UNC. In his spare time Dr. Kirkland enjoys water sports, including his newest passion, kite boarding.
