I was a patient of Dr Shavranov while he was North Carolina. During that time I saw him 10 times including 2 surgeries. He treated me with compassion and professionalism. He throughly answered my questions and he never rushed me out the door. As my eyesight improved as a result of his expertise, he was just as happy as I was, and that meant a lot to me.

In my many years being treated by Dr. Shafranov, I've always been treated to kind, expert diagnosis, treatment, follow up & explanations tailored to the lay person.

If you can trust and tolerate his arrogant and unprofessional approach, maybe he's the right one for you. Unfortunately, I trusted him and wish I did not. He is a sloppy surgeon who should not be taking advantage of people at risk of losing their eyesight. I've had 3 other professional opinions tell me that he performed a surgery that was not needed.

Please get a second opinion after seeing him. If he mentions a Baerveldt implant, turn around and run! I am a victim of his barbaric surgery. He told me that my eye " will never know it anything is in there " and it would not be visible. Well, now I have constant irritation, cloudiness, a dry patch, and my eyelid doesn't close all the way because it gets caught on the huge white bulky chunk of some one else's sclera that I was never informed of! I have had 2 other surgeons opinions since then and both agree that there are other options he should have addressed.

I have had cataract surgery with two different surgeons, so I have a basis for comparison. I had better vision with the eye Dr. Shafranov operated on three hours after surgery than I have with the other eye more than three months after surgery. Needless to say, I left the former surgeon for George Shafranov.
