Dr. George Christopher Vournas, MD

Seems a little melodramatic, I know. Seventeen years ago, in 2001, I was 44 years old. I had crushing chest pains...three separate events. Two trips to the emergency room, one paramedic team out to the house. No diagnosis made, other than to prescribe Xanax for my "anxiety attacks" by my primary physician. Twice I crushed aspirin tablets and ingested the dust...I thought I might be having a heart attack. Dr. Vournas said this likely saved my own life. I digress. Two days after the third event, hit event #4. I went to St. Johns, and Dr. Vournas INSISTED on running a cardiac catheter. I woke up the next day in CICU, cardiac intensive care, and learned that I was given an emergency bypass. Left anterior descending, and extremely unstable. Thank God for Dr. Vournas. I have see wedding anniversery #25 through 41, and counting, my daughter graduate as Valedictorian, go on to get her masters, a couple of grandkids, and now retirement in a beautiful home on the lake in New Town. I just… shake my head at what nearly happened. Dr. Vournas said I was a walking dead man.
