I chose Dr. Gerald M. Hayward to perform a bilateral Inguinal hernia repair using the laparoscopic method. I had first noticed the slight bulging several yrs. ago and just ignored it and never felt any discomfort until about 4 months ago I began noticing it bulging more and began feeling a little soreness there so felt I should not put off any longer having it looked at by my primary care doctor. So got a referral and I chose Dr. Hayward as I wanted to go to a surgeon that used the latest procedures and he also worked at several smaller surgery centers, thus avoiding a large facility or hospital. I met with him about a month prior to the surgery date and he answered questions and went over how the procedure would take place. He was easy and comfortable to talk with - put things in laymen's terms. He explained how three small incisions are made (about 1/3 to 1/2 inch) and the mesh is placed and using the small camera and instruments. The staff gave me a few sheets of pre-op instructions… to follow prior to surgery. I arrived with a friend who stayed at the center and then drove me home later. The staff was friendly, fun to talk with yet focused on their work. The actual operation took about one hour and 20 min. After being in a recovery area for about 30 min. the friend and I were given a page of post operation procedures to follow for a few days concerning diet, activities, showering and general care to take. I went back 4 weeks later to meet with Dr, Hayward for about 30 min. and he said I healed up well. They had given me a prescription for pain if needed afterwards, but I found that the minor pain did not warrant using this. I did use Alleve for a few days afterwards. Two days of rest and by the 3 day I was back to my usual activity. I highly recommend Dr. Gerald M. My husband had surgery with Dr. Hayward for 3 hernias. We were very anxious because of 2 very bad experiences with anesthesia many years ago. Dr. Hayward took his time talking to us and answering all our questions a week before sugery, and he put many of our fears to rest. He and the terrific anesthesiologist talked to us again just before surgery and told us everything they were going to do. The surgery went perfectly, and my husband did not even have nausea or after effects of the anesthesia. It is now the 4th week and he is healing up really well. Dr. Hayward is kind and respectful and informative, and we were so fortunate to get someone like him.

Diagnosed and removed endometrial tissue that I had suffered with for years. First doctor to figure out the source of my pain. After 15 years I have my life back - pain free! Thank you! Complete confidence in Dr Hayward and would highly recommend. I am forever indebted.

The Doc took his time with my son, was very professional and knowledgable, yet personal. A real gem! I highly recommend this doctor. My son had been worried about some injuries he'd had, but his concerns were soon cured by Dr. Hayward!

Dr. Hayward removed my gal bladder. I was terribly anxious and nervous about my surgery and he really put my nerves at ease. He and his staff @ Ellicott City Surgery Center were excellent. I did have a reaction to my anesthesia when I got home - was up most of the night throwing up. I was terrified something went wrong with the surgery - NOPE, just a little nauseous from the anesthesia. Dr. Hayward took my late night calls (on a friday night I might add) and even called me to check in a few times to make sure I was doing alright. I've never had a doctor that was so attentive to my needs. I was up and running again within a few days.

I had Lapriscopic surgery for an umbilical hernia. Very little pain or discomfort. Out and about after a few days. Was very pleased with results. Staff at surgical center was great too.

procedure for a hernia was done with minimal discomfort,recovery time was far different from the one I had done quite a number of years ago. Marvelous doctor and great staff.
